First time in 99! Landry Potter (#22) brought home his first feature win of the season in Super Late Model action at Lake Geneva Raceway. Potter and Kent Burkoth swapped the lead in the closing laps but Potter led the lap that counted the most. The final one. |
Burlington drivers Scotty Poritz and Clayton Kruse, won the 20 lap sportsman feature and 15 lap Legend cars feature, respectively.
From his pole starting position, Landry Potter jumped out front of the eighteen car field in Super Late Model action. Jim Kjellander in his first night out this year was next, with Denny Hiffman, Russ Blakley and Mark Simonsen behind them. Hiffman and Simonsen got under Kjellander on lap eight, with a tight field from back to front.
Kent Burkoth moved around Blakley on lap eleven. The next movement came on lap fifteen, when Al Shill entered the top five, as he and Burkoth got by Kjellander. Burkoth worked on Hiffman for three more laps, before taking over second. Randy Rodgers slipped until Simonsen on lap nineteen, with the top six very close.
On lap twenty one, Burkoth got by the leader, but one lap later Potter was back in front. The only caution came on lap twenty seven, as Larry Surleta and Garrett Fait got together. The three lap dash was intense, with Potter winning the event. Burkoth was second, with Schill nipping Hiffman at the wire. Tim Lynn Jr. slipped into six, with fast timer Danny Darnell and Simonsen completing the top eight.

The 20 car super stock feature saw Mike Kooi lead the first five laps, before Doug Peterson forged in front. Jermey Tess, John Janssen, Zac Deeringer and Shane Bishop were right on their tail. Bishop just slipped into fourth when smoke started to show, on lap eight. Starter Dave Rex Jr. Jr. had no other choice on lap than throw the black flag. Bishop retired to the pit area, just as Janssen grabbed second.
The only caution came the same lap, as Tim Wilson flew off turn four, with dust all over the place. On the restart, Janssen slipped in front, with Peterson, Kooi and Deeringer all over each other. Quickly, Deeringer moved up to second on lap twelve, with last weeks feature winner John Maki getting around Kooi, for fourth. The next eleven laps were flawless, as Janssen and Deeringer diced for the top spot. On lap eighteen, Deeringer inched ahead, with Maki on Janssen's back side.

The last five laps couldn't have been better, as Deeringer won the event. Janssen held back Maki, ith Adam Regnier nipping Dan Huber at the wire. Marry Robb, Tess and Jerry Cowan were next, in this close contest.
The sportsman feature for twenty laps, brought Nick Schumacher in front of the race, until a lap six caution stopped action. Brian Baker shot in fron , at the drop of the next green, with Dan Erikson quickly following the new leader. Just that fast, Erikson spun onto the infield dashing his hopes for a higher finish, but no caution was needed, as quick timer Scotty Poritz took over second.

The next caution came on lap eleven, as Monty Coffman spun in traffic. Baker led only one more lap, before Poritz slipped in front. Seven laps later Poritz was just afew feet ahead of Baker for the wih. LeRoy Potter was a close third, with Jacko Terrault fourth, Joe Francisco, Mike Lange and Chris Wangrow rounded out the top eight.
With only two caution flags in the Legends feature, Clayton Kruse took the win just ahead of Gary LaMonte, fast qualifier Matt Kecourek, Jereme Schroeder, Herman Greinig and Carl Bachner in their fifteen lap feature event. Next weekend, motocross racing continues on the stadium dirt course at 8 pm. Friday.
Saturday night the Parts Place of Elkhorn presents the sportsman and sport trucks, along with the super late models and super stocks on the program. One on one racing will be the added attraction, as WSLD Radio will be here for a live remote. Time trials begin at 6 pm. racing at 7:30 sharp. Lake Geneva Raceway is located on Bloomfield Road just one and a half mile southeast of downtown Lake Geneva. The track surface is a paved one third mile banked oval.
