October 1, 1999; Lake Geneva, WI. Despite temperatures in the 40's and rain before the show started, nearly 100 small race cars came out for the chilled to the bone race fans, that witnessed the 3rd Annual Small Car World Championships at Lake Geneva Raceway, Friday night.

Eight divisions, of the ten expected were here. Driver from four states were competing. Four drivers took a clean sweep in their respective divisions. In the 4 cylinders Darnell Mepham, Wisconsin Mini sport trucks John Meidam, Joe Moser in the two cycle GEM Pro Karts and Matt Kocourek in the Legend cars.

The show was marred by a lap three, heat two accident, in the legend cars. Kenosha County DA, Bob Jambois got over the wheels of another car, then on to his side, then rolling six and one half times, landing in a water ditch. Jambois was transported to Elkhorn Hospital for observation and a complete check out. His number four race car received extensive damage.

In a very close contest, in the Rascal Outlaws , Dave Shine slipped in front of the field for the first lap, before second in time Chris Carlson shot in front, after some lucky breaks. With a lap eight caution, quick timer Jim Veugeler chased him all the way to the checkered, but fell short at the line, as Carlson took the win, with Veugeler at his side in second. Chris Bedore, Butch Torkelson, John Senkert and Dave Shine rounded out the top six.

Another great race was the two cycle GEM Pro Karts, as Joe Moser held off numerous challenges from Jay Gough, who races in both classes of karts. At the line Moser was ahead by just about the nose of the slick looking kart. Mark Fredette and Ray Plotter were next.

In the four cycle larger karts, Josh Stahl delighted the crowd with his run to the top, winning the race just ahead of Jay Gough who was runner up again. Dave Gough, Chris Lishamer, Jason Krage, J.J. Adams and P.J. Tardy were right behind the top two.

Sweeping them up!  In the left photo Darnell Mepham (#12) scored a feature win in the "largest" of the
vehicles competing in the Small Car World Championships when he topped the 4 Cylinder feature.  In the right photo John Meidam recorded a sweep in the popular Wisconsin Sport Truck division.

Seven year veteran Darnell Mepham who races at Jefferson Speedway in the 4 cylinder class had a good night, beating Rockford Speedway arch rival, George Sparkman in their heat and the 20 lap feature. Smooth driving Jim Olson was the first truck to complete the race in third, with rookie sport truck driver Chad Phillips next. Mick Hoppe in a car was fifth. The sport truck champion, Chad Ross was sixth.

Matt Kocourek took just three laps to shoot to the front, winning the Legend feature just in front of Curt Gnatzig as these two used the lapped traffic to their own advantage. Gnatzig led in a cluster of cars, but Kocourek out maneuvered the runner-up at the wire. Tim Zellmer was the only other unlapped car, finishing third. Herman Greinig, Dave Cerer and Brad Popp were next.

The visiting Northern Michigan racing Association cars were again the quickest, as Gary Miller won the event, with Jayson Beute, Ashleigh Miller, Frank Miller and Tom Bielas completing the top six.

The Wisconsin Mini sport trucks that will compete on Saturday also, ran four and five deep during their feature, as fast time qualifier John Meidam won the race ahead of Mike Schneider who nearly toppled the leader on lap twelve. Robyn Wussow, Todd Verhagen, John Giese and Dan Vixmer were next.

Ken Jones fought hard for victory in the mini cup main event, taking the win over Dave Saenz, Joel Schultz, Joe Soltis and Greg Peterson, in this short, but tight field.

The regular Wisconsin Allison Legacy series feature brought the first career win here, to Scott Nicoson, Jeff Goodwin was at his side in second, with Keith Toll, Jeff Conn, Ken Wills and quick timer Doug Reichley right behind the leader.
