By Dale R. Erdmann

June 14, Lake Geneva, WI.

For the second time this race season, ideal weather graced the large crowd that came out to witness the ninth weekly Saturday Night racing program, sponsored by Lunch Chevrolet, Jeep, Eagle, Pontiac, GEO and GMC Trucks of Burlington, WI.

David Ray Salentine of Muskego lead every lap of the 30 lap Super Late Model feature to win his first contest of the season. Landry Potter of Genoa City competes in three of the four divisions that race here at Lake Geneva Raceway won the 20 lap Herb's Street Stock feature and the Wisconsin Allison Legacy Series event. Rick Corso won his second career Mid-American Stock Car Series event in the 40 lap main of the turing series which was here this evening.

Al Schill of Franklin, WI set fast time and later claimed second place in the feature event. Schill now holds a commanding lead in the Super Late Model division at Lake Geneva Raceway.

Starting on the outside of row one, Salentine out sprinted Mike Simon, the polesitter for the lead. Ken Burkoth raced side by side with Simon, as visiting driver Scotty Poritz raced an unusual line in fourth. Right behind this cluster Mike Hartline was getting anxious to move up.

On lap four Hartline got under Poritz, with Burkoth still working on Simon for second behind Salentine.

With ten laps in the books, Salentine could now feel the pressure of Burkoth, as Hartline moved into third. The first of only two slowdown came on lap twelve, as Billy Baumiester tangeled with Bob Moeller, as they came off turn two. Neither driver was in jured but Baumeister never returned to action, Moeller would return but one lap down.

Terry Patnode of Oak Creek, WI had been improving his performance each week in the Super Late Model division. This week he captured the dash race after qualfiying third for the evening.

Salentine was just able to stay ahead of a persistant Burkoth the next seven rounds before the final caution flew. This time Bard Durbin, Denny Hiffman and Fran Prestay got together in that smae turn two trouble spot.

With the jockeying for position taking place for the final restart, both Salentine and Burkoth chose the outside lane, while Bobby Giers, Hartline and Schill chose the low line for the ensuing green.

As the green flag displayed for the last 11 laps, it was a dog fight for any position changes. Gies and Schill went side by side for the for four laps before Schill annexed the third spot. Meanwhile Salentine had moved out to a three car length lead over Burkoth.

Schill moved around Burkoth and set his sights on Salentine with just three laps left in the event. Time ran out hovever as Salentine took the win over Schill by a car length. Burkoth took third, Giers was right there in fourth, with Hartline holding back Eddie May for fifth.

Rookie driver Lyle Messinger jumped out front of the Street Stock feature, with Rick Jacobs, Mike Kooi and Bob Koidahl in hot persuit. The grueling side by side pace had Kooi falter on lap five, as Mark Swan moved into the fourth spot right behind Koidahl.

On lap ten, Jacobs bobbeled, with Koidahl and Potter taking away some positions. Messinger still had a comfortable lead, but things were getting tighter behnind him. Potter used the inside lane in his quest for victory advancing positions and finally slid under Messinger on lap 14, when Messinger ran high in turn four to grab the top spot.

Before the feature ended point leader Denny Norton Jr., adavnced into second when Potter took the checkered flag. Koidahl hung onto third, with Adam Regnier fourth, Messinger fifth and Swan sixth in a very close race. Refusing to participate in a post race inspection Norton was disqualified for the evening allowing all the drivers behind to move up one notch in the standings.

Landry Potter (#77) of Genoa City had a very busy night at Lake Geneva Raceway, he won two features during the evening, one of which was in his Hobby Stock shown here. He also won the Allison Legacy series event.

With cars from three states the Allison Legacy Series cars ran non-stop, as Potter led all laps of this tight race. Quick timer Bobby Giers ran out of time capturing second, just ahead of John Arendsen. Mark Fair held back Jack Kassow for fourth with Jay White taking sixth.

Four seperate racing programs will take place next weekend. Friday Night motorcross racing begins at 8:00 P.M. on the stadium dirt course with 300 riders expected. The Mid-Season Championships will take place on the oval for the weekly stock car series program.
