The 20th Annual BARS "Let's Go Racing" Auto Show that is presently taking place at the Lakehurst Mall in Waukegan, IL. officially kicks off the 1997 Racing Season in this part of the country.

The 20th Annual
"Let Go Racing" Motorsports Show, which ran for
7 days had over 6,000 specatators enjoy racing displays
setup area racing drivers. Several competitors from Lake
Geneva Raceway were on hand to display thier 1997 rides
before the start of the season. The only weekend practice of the year is March 29th, 1997 at Lake Geneva Raceway. |
Lake Geneva Raceway is participating in the show that runs through Sunday, March 23rd. until 6 P.M. The track officially opens on Wednesday March 26th for the first weekly practice which takes place from 1 P.M. until dusk. The only weekend practice and inspection this year will be on March 29th. This date was chosen as easter falls on March 30th.
The "Opening Night of Racing" takes place on April 5th. This date marks the opening of the 14th season under the direction of Kevin Dawson the longest stretch for a promoter in the history of the track. The one-third mile paved, banked oval will host weekly Super Late Model racing. The last time the Super Late Models ran at Lake Geneva Raceway on a weekly basis was 1981, on the old quarter mile oval.
A field of drivers from all over Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana are expect opening night. It's going to be a wide open group, as all the regulars from the Late Model division are expected back, along with many who are looking for a new weekly Saturday Night spot to race.
Other divisions opening night, include the Herb's Street Stock division and the 102.3 XLC Sport Track class. Gates for the pit area will open at 4:30 P.M. and time trials begin at 6:00PM. The first race will be at 7:30 P.M. sharp.

Norton Jr. (#96) has his Street Stock on
display. The sharp looking Chevrolet Monte Carlo captured
a first in class appearance award. The cars were judged
throughout the week. Norton will be competing for the
track title in the Herb's Street Stock division. His main
sponsor is Performance Unlimited. The season opener is scheduled for April 5th, 1997. |

Jeffrey Sachse from Racing Online has setup a website and the raceway can be reached at www.racingonline.com/lgr , most newer web browsers should add http:// first. There will be daily and weekly updates throughout the season. Anyone that wants the raceway to add information about thier favorite driver, should fax the track at (414) 248-6434. Sachse will be at the BARS show on Saturday and Sunday.
