By Dale R. Erdmann

June 6, 1998; Lake Geneva, WI. -  R & R Trucking and Active Construction Company sponsored the "kids night out" race program Saturday night at Lake Geneva Raceway.

12 year old Amy Glishlein played the national anthem on her clarinet, to the delight of the crowd.

lgr9810a.jpg (13740 bytes) Al Schill Sr. made his way back to victory lane in the Super Late Model division at Lake Geneva Raceway, after having some dismal luck of late.

Tonight the current point leader avoided the problems that plagued him and scored his third feature win of 1998.

Al Schill Sr. of Franklin, WI won his third Super Late Model 30 lap feature of the season, as Jeff Holtz of Franklin, won his first career Performance Unlimited Mid-American Sportsman feature event. Tommy Nevoso of Trevor won his third Herb's super stock feature and BJ Goodin of Cedar Falls,Iowa won the Select Performance Legend cars 20 lap main event.

Billy Baumeister slipped in front of the super late model feature at the drop of the green, with Paul Loppnow, Larry Los and Schill right behind him. On lap 5, Mark Simonsen did a solo spin, bringing the race to a halt. Three laps later Los and Kent Burkoth tangled, stopping the race one more time. Each time the cone played a major roll in the future of this event. Baumeister was still out front as Schill and Ronnie Darnell dueled for the runner up spot.

Mark Hartline joined in on the battle for second, taking third from Darnell on lap 13. Then fast timer Randy Rodgers scooted past Darnell and Hartline and was along side of Schill when he coasted to the infield, bowing out of the race, at lap 15.

Schill wasted little time, scrambling to the front on lap 16 . Until lap 28, it was a see/saw race for second through sixth, then Loppnow spun in turn four, stopping the race for a final time.  The night for Wayne Freimund was spoiled, as his catch can started to leak while running sixth and he had to drop from the event.  Schill took the win, with Landry Potter, Darnell, Baumeister, Denny Hiffman and Loss all right there at the checkered.

Marty Robb in only his fifth week of racing, paced the Super Stock feature for the first 4 laps. By then Tommy Nevoso was up to challenge the front runner.

In Super Stock racing, three wide is the norm, and if you do real well in traffic, you can end up in vctory lane like Tommy Nevoso (left) did.

On lap five, Novoso was the new leader, who had Adam Regnier chase him the entire distance . On lap 14,  lapped traffic helped the leader to distance himself from the field. Regnier and John Janssen fought to the wire for second. As they crossed the line, Nevoso picked up the win, with Regnier just inches ahead of Janssen, Zac Deeringer, Don Radke and Bob Koidahl.

Brad Troxel jumped out front of the 23 car sportsman field, with Mike Lange, Rick Corso, Dan Robers and point leader Joel Clossey in hot pursuit. Corso got by Lange on lap 4, but Lange came back to tag Corso, causing a spin, in front of the field. Robers and Wes Biswell were at the wrong place at the wrong time, getting involved with the incident.

Traffic jam!  Wes Biswell  (23) had the unfortunate timing of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.  While trying to avoid contact with another car he managed to get his car involved in a wreck.   Going by on the outside is the ride of Tommy Goff (#14).  Biswell would return to finish seventh in the Mid-American feature, after earlier winning his heat. lgr9810b.jpg (6566 bytes)

Clossey bolted to the front, moving past Troxel and into the lead, after a brief battle with R.J. Malec, who now second. Rick Tackman Jr. spun after an encounter with Jack Kossow . Malec barged his way into the lead one more time, on lap 11.

Then Holtz joined the cluster up front.  All while Clossey tried in vain to regain the lead, as Holtz and Malec swapped the top spot.  Holtz moved in front on lap 17, just before Malec, Bobby Gutknecht and Kevin Rybuck tangled.  This created a two lap dash to the checkered, that Holtz won, Clossey was second, followed by Tim Schmitt, Corso, first timer Steve Strasburg and a recovering Kossow.

It took Goodin 18 laps to move up front, as first Mark Bitzan, then Milt Kemp led the race. Curt Gnatzig who had fast time, finished in second. Bryan Cataldi, Kemp, Dave Evans and Jereme Schroeder rounded out the top six.

Saturday night June 13th. Lynch Motors in Burlington sponsors, the Mid American point series events, which will be held in addtion to the Super Late Models and Super Stocks. Time trials are at 6 pm. races at 7:30 pm sharp, on the progressively banked, one-third mile asphalt oval.  The racetrack is located three miles south of downtown Lake Geneva on Bloomfield Road.
