Brian Hoppe moved out front of the 24 car feature with Eddie Hoffman, Steve Carlson, quick timer Ron Breeze Jr. and Al Schill Jr. hot on his tail. Just as Jim Weber slipped along side Schill Jr. the caution flew as starter John Powell saw Jon Lemke and Scott Bryden tangle in front of the crowd. There were five yellow flag laps recorded, as Hoppe moved out front, once the green came out.
Schill Jr. got under Carlson, with Hoffman right behind the leader. If Hoppe made a mistake, Hoffman would have an opportunity for success, but that never happened, even though Hoffman was to the inside of the leader. Side by side Hoppe and Hoffman, Schill and Carlson, Breeze and Rod Wheeler raced through laps fourteen through twenty one. On Lap twenty two Hoffman spun, bringing out another caution. Jim Weber drove over Wheeler's front tire, but both continued.
The next six laps were under the caution flag. Back to full throttle Hoppe had Schill Jr. all over him, with Carlson,. Breeze Jr. and now Biff George a tight foursome. On lap thirty one, Schill could feel Carlson's presence. These two raced side by side for three more laps before Carlson took over second. Neil Knoblock running midpack, tagged Pat Echlin, but both continued.
Carlson challenged the leader numerous times, but until lap forty one, Hoppe looked like the one to beat, that's when Carlson moved in front. Within ten more laps, Carlson moved to a ten car advantage. On lap fifty five, the first car was lapped. One lap later Echlin spun off turn three, into the dirt.
On lap 58, the caution came out and four laps ran under the yellow. On lap seventy, Jim Weber spun, bringing the race to another slowdown and three more laps under yellow.
By lap eighty, Al Schill Sr. who started far back in the field, was knocking on Jason Schuler's door for the fifth position. Travis Kvapil was another driver on the way to the front, working his way up to third on lap eighty two. Larry Middleton Jr. oiled down the track, making things real rough on lap eighty eight and four laps ran under the caution, before Powell red flagged the event, for a long clean up.
On the next green, Schill Jr. spun causing another yellow. When the green flew and so did Carlson, moving in front on lap ninety six. Hoffman who started dead last after that lap twenty two spin, was now up to third, after a lengthy battle with Schill Sr. and then Breeze Jr.
On lap 102, John Brolick who was up to seventh, got together with Schuler. Brolick dumped liquid around the oval, after getting loose from Schuler. After two laps under yellow, the red came out for another big clean up.
On the restart, Hoffman moved under Hoppe for second with Carlson still comfortably out front. Schill Sr. was now on Hoffmann's tail. J.R. Roahrig got loose on lap hundred fifteen, with second through tenth under a blanket. Hoffman couldn't get around Hoppe, but now Schill Sr. wanted third. Coming into turn two, Schill pulled even with Hoffman, but then lost afew feet before turn three.
The last five laps of the race were excellent, as Carlson came home the winner, Hoppe was second, Schill who nipped Hoffman on the final lap took third while, Wheeler, Roahrig, Kvapil and George rounded out the top eight.
Danny Darnell led the first eleven laps of the twenty lap last chance race, until he and John Brolick played a see/saw battle for the next six laps. Brolick finally moved under Darnell , taking the lead on lap eighteen winning the event over Darnell, Jamie McMurray, Mark Hartline, Brad Wagner, and Dave Weltmeyer, in a race that saw four caution periods.
The non-stop super stock feature brought twenty four cars to the grid, as Bob Koidahi paced the first two laps of the side by side group. Adam Regnier slipped in front, with Willie schumacher, Doug Peterson, Marty Robb and Greg Janutka . By lap nine , Janutka was up to fourth, with Regnier just about three car lengths in front.
It was a tight field, with little movement, except for Don Radke and Pulera, moving at will through the field. By lap eighteen, this duo was second and fourth. Schumacher's third was being challenged by Pulera one lap later and then Pulera secured that spot, on lap twenty.
Dicing for a better spot, Pulera and Radke put on a show, with Regnier just in front. Pulera eventually took over second, setting his sights on the leader. Starter Dave Rex Jr. gave the signal for five laps to go, that's when Pulera, who hasn't raced since 1993 grabbed the lead, on lap twenty six. The race was far from over, as Pulera driving the Jerry Cowan mount won the event over Radke, Regnier, and John Janssen, who worked until 4:30 am. putting his car back together after last nights flip. Point leader Tommy Nevoso and Zac Deeringer rounded out the top six.
Earlier in the evening John Janssen picked up $275 for "the hard charger"
award from Herb's used
