Second year driver Tommy Nevoso of Trevor, moved within 10 points of the lead, after winning his second Herb's super stock 20 lap feature of the season. The 1982 Datsun from City Auto Sales in Waukegan, Illinois, took the Prolong challenge , running without oil for over 2 hours and over 20 laps around the surface. The car will be refueled, this coming weekend and run again. A record high 111 cars in three classes qualified.
Mark Hartline paced the 20 car super late model feature, that saw it's first of too many caution periods on lap 6, for a spin by Larry Los. On the now famous cone restart Hartline now had Brad Durbin right behind him. With the green back out, Hartline, Durbin, point leader Al Schill and John Nutley all wanted that top spot.
On lap 9, Durbin felt it time to grab that front spot, but Hartline wasn't going to give up that easily. Then Schlll stuck his nose into the cluster and Hartline still came back in front. Landry Potter got under Nutley, with Rodgers now seventh on lap 13.
The field wasn't breaking up, but Potter got by Schill on lap 16. Two laps later Durbin raced in front, with Potter now along side Schill. On lap 20, Los stopped the race one more time with his turn two spin. Race fans were seeing the best racing of the year, as Durbin remained in command, on lap 25, Schill got by Hartline, with Potter and Rodgers, right behind them.

The wrong way!! Landry Potter (#22) gets turned around in the Late Model feature, sending cars scrambling to avoid him. Going by are Mike Simon (#48), Timm Lynn Jr (#88) and narrowly missing Potter's car is Paul Loppnow. |
Nutley now had Kent Burkoth along side of him, as Jim Taylor spun on lap 28, stopping this tense pace for the final time. Rodgers picked the inside, as Schill moved outside, Durbin held the lead less than one more lap, as Rodgers flew alongside of him. Then Durbin drifted only so slightly up, Rodgers dove down and under the leader, taking the lead with just one lap to go.
Rodgers breezed to a two length victory over Durbin, Schill, Burkoth, Hartline, Potter, Nutley and Danny Darnell.
| Closing in!! Tommy Nevoso, in his second year of driving in the Herb's Super Stock division, won his second feature this season. With that effort he closed to within a mere 10 points of leader Adam Regnier. Nevoso had never lead the point standings and is attempting to steal the point lead! | ![]() |
Shawn Donnelly jumped out front of the 20 car super stock feature , with Bert Getchell , Katie Taylor, Bob Koidahl and Tim Mueller right behind him. Terry Hilgendorf tagged Louie Bochette, causing a spin and a slowdown . Getchell grabbed the lead on the restart, with Donnelly and Koidahl dueling for second.
By lap 5, Koidahl couldn't wait, becoming the third leader in the early going of another tight feature run. Zac Deeringer was moving up , taking over second by lap 10.
One lap later Deeringer crept out front, after a good battle with Getchell. Deeringer held onto the lead during parts of the next 6 laps , but Nevoso didn't let up. On lap 16, Adam Regnier slipped under Deeringer and new leader Nevoso had his hands full. On lap 17 , fast timer John Janssen joined the battle ,with all cars on the lead lap.
Nevoso held on for the win , with Regnier, Janssen, Deeringer , Getchell and Jerry Cowan under that blanket.
