May 22, 1998; Lake Geneva, WI. - Kevin Rybuck of New Berlin had a real good Friday Night at Lake Geneva Raceway. The former dirt track runner, has now moved into second in points in the Performance Unlimited Sportsman division at Lake Geneva Raceway, after winning his first career 30 lap feature event. Rybuck took home $400 for the feat. Jack Kossow of Union Grove won the 20 Lap Wisconsin Allison Legacy Series feature. Adam Regnier of McHenry, IL, took over the point lead in the Herb's Super Stocks after winning that divisions feature race.
Rick Corso slipped in front of the Sportsman main event, with Jack Kossow, who races double duty in hot pursuit. On lap three, Kossow and the leader made contact. This brought out the first caution. When the green flag returned Brad Troxel and Rick Tackman Jr. fought for the lead. Out of nowhere Mike DeKeuster in his first appearance of the season flew into the lead on lap seven.
One lap later Rybuck was right on the new leaders tail. It was a see saw battle for the next couple positions as point leader Joel Clossey got by Tim Schmitt and was now third on lap 15. With three laps to go, Clossey worked his way past DeKeuster for second but one lap later, DeKeuster worked his way back into the runner-up spot. Just in front of the close running field Rybuck was in command With the white flag out, it was too close to call as Rybuck glided acrossed the wire. DeKeuster nipped Clossey for second, with Corso in front of Kossow and Troxel to round out the top six. Clossey picked up an extra $50 from Mid-American President Gary Vercauteren, for taking fast time in an event that was part of the weekends holiday tour.

The new point leader, in the Herb's Super Stock division is Adam Regnier of McHenry, IL. Regnier earlier won the trophy dash in addition to his feature win. That performance was enough to move him ahead of fellow racer Tommy Nevoso in the season point battle. |
Jim Hughs held back numerous challenges from Lyle Messinger in the Herb's Super Stock event, until lap three, when the lead changed to Messingers advantage. Messinger's tour out front was short lived too, as Regnier went to the top spot. The race was far from over, as Troy Weber scooted into second on lap 12, while Zac Deeringer was knocking on Messinger's door for second.
The final five laps brought the small frozen crowd to it's feet as Regnier got the win, Messinger held onto a close second, with Don Radke, Derringer, Jerry Cowan and John Janssen completing the top six.
Jeff Conn held onto the lead for three laps in the Wisconsin Allison Legacy Series event, before Kossow shot out front. There were lots of positions changes behind the leader and winner of the event, as Jeff Goodwin took second, just in front of fast qualifier Bobby Giers. Joe Bever was fourth and Randy Coats took fifth.
For the weekly Saturday Night racing program, Time trials are at 6 pm. races at 7:30 pm sharp, on the progressively banked, one-third mile asphalt oval. The racetrack is located three miles south of downtown Lake Geneva on Bloomfield Road.
