A few pieces were missing but, Brad Durbin guided his Super Late Model to victory in the second 25 lap feature event. He celebrated the win in victory lane which saw plenty of traffic as twin features were on tap for the evenings program. His cars damage occurred in the first feature. He didn't finish the first main and took 9th overall on the evening. |
Al Schill Jr. of Franklin, a former champion here, walked off with $750 and the overall win for the twin 25 lap feature races. The first race was won by Mike Simon of Lake Villa,Illinois and the second by Brad Durbin of Burlington. John Janssen of Genoa City picked up his second super stock 20 lap feature, after posting fast time, and Kevin Rybuck of New Berlin won his second straight feature race for the Performance Unlimited Sportsman cars.
It was a beautiful night out, as 20 cars saw starter Dave Rex Jr. throw the double greens to start the first 25 Lap Late Model feature. Just one lap was recorded in the books, as Jim Taylor did his solo spin, slowing the action. Then one lap later Mark Simonsen spun, stopping the progress again.
Each time Mike Simon jumped in front. Visiting driver Troy Gozad and Mark Hartline tangled on lap four, and before three more laps got in, Landry Potter tangled with Denny Hiffman.
Finally 5 more laps were recorded before Dennis Vito spun. Lap 16 Simon barely held onto the lead with Kent Burkoth and Al Schill Jr. all over him challenging for the top spot.
Al Schill Jr who had to start in the back after the lap four caution, because there was no opening in the tun and the younger Schill elected to go into the pits to avoid contact. Schill Jr. and Burkoth put on a show, with a see/saw battle for second, as Simon started to make a small lead out of nothing.
| Cars scatter everywhere! Al Schill Jr (#7), who would eventually win the overall twin 25 title based on his steady performances, guided his car through this wreck which involved Denny Hiffman (#41), Brad Durbin (#57) and a pair of unidentified cars. | ![]() |
On lap 21, Shill Jr. finally got by Burkoth for second and set his sights on the lead. On lad 23 Schill got under Simon and moved to a 10 inch lead. But the veteran driver Simon wasn't going down without a fight and retook the front spot just before the final caution, as cars went everywhere in a turn two crash. Simon won the event over Al Schill Jr, with Burkoth, Billy Baumeiseter, Larry Los, Mike Simon Jr, Jim Kjellander and Bob Moeller taking the top positions.
Point leader Al Schill Sr., was the only driver no able to answer the call for the second 25 lapper. Just like the previous feature, the pole sitter Brad Durbin bolted out front of the field as fast timer Randy Rodgers went sliding into the infield but continued with no caution required.
Dennis Vito slipped into second and started to pressure the leader. On lap 10, Landry Potter must have broke something, sliding off the turn one hill.
Durbin quickly slipped in front again with Vito, Denny Hiffman, Mark Hartline, Simonsen and Gozad right with him. For the second race in a row, second place was another close one, as Hiffman inched ahead of Vito on lap 14.
Lap 19 saw the second caution of the event, as Simon Jr. and Taylor spun. Then lap 22, Kjellander and Simon crashed hard, as Kjellander tagged the wall in the encounter.
After the final restart, Durbin was up to the call, easily winning this event over Hiffman, Hartline, Rodgers, Vito, Simonsen, Baumeister and Schill Jr. The overall finish was Schill Jr., Baumeister, Hiffman, Burkoth, Los, Hartline, Simon and Rodgers.

Woah!! Jim Taylor (#26) spun in front of Ed Schneidwent (#15) and wound up getting collected in this semi-feature incident. Neither driver was able to finish high enough to make the main after the tangle. Taylor earlier had a second place finish in his heat. |
Rob Braun paced the first lap of the super stock feature, before Doug Peterson slipped in front. Louie Bochette was inside Bob Koidahl battling for sixth, when contact was made, causing Bouchette's right front tire to go down just as five cars got together in turn two. Stones were thrown all over the track in the incident, bringing out the first and only caution of the event.
With the green back out, Doug Peterson had Todd Peterson along side him for the lead. Todd took over the top spot on lap 4 , with a tight field right behind him. Koidahl got by Braun for third on lap 7, with Don Radke starting his quest forward. Right behind Radke was fast timer Janssen, with Doug Peterson still holding holding onto second.
The side by side excitement continued for the final half of the race, Todd and Doug Peterson (no relation) swapped the lead until Janssen moved around both of the them on lad 14 . Before the checkered, Radke worked on Todd and then Doug Peterson for any advancement, Janssen won the event, with Radke nipping Douq Peterson at the wire,Tommy Nevoso slipped under Todd Peterson for fourth, with Zac Deeringer sixth.
| Fast on asphalt!! Kevin Rybuck, a former champion at Hales Corners Speedway, a clay track, has quickly adapted to asphalt racing! Rybuck won this evenings Sportsman feature event and is currently second in the point standings in the division. | ![]() |
Veteran driver Vaughn Gerke grabbed the lead of the Sportsman feature, with Willy Peterson holding onto second until he dropped out on lap four. It was three wide racing as Mike Lange inched out front on lap five, with Dan Erikson in the middle and Gerke outside.
On lap 7, Erickson moved in front, with Jack Kossow now in second. Just three laps later, Kossow grabbed the lead, with Erickson now second and Rybuck up to third. Every position was too close to call, as Rick Tackman Jr. and Lange fought for fourth.
Point leader Joel Clossey was just waiting for a mistake by the front runners. Only Clossey and Tim Schmitt moved up during the next few laps, as Rybuck put the pressure on the leader. This paid off, as Kossow bobbled on lap 17, with Rybuck taking over the lead. Schmitt followed past Kossow and two laps later, and Clossey followed too.
The race up front had the crowd going wild, as Rybuck maintained the lead as Schmitt and Clossey battled for second. Each time Clossey got alongside Schmitt, the runner-up would drift high. One time both cars event crashed hard together, but they both continued to race and keep their positions.
Rybuck won the event, with Schmitt hanging onto second, Clossey was third, with Erikson, Kossow and Tackman rounding out the top six finishers.
Next Saturday night, R & R Trucking presents "kids night out" with rides in the race cars and a special fan doing the national anthem. The sportsman and the first appearance of the Select Performance Legend cars, along with the super late models and super stocks will also race.
Time trials are at 6 pm. races at 7:30 pm sharp, on the progressively banked, one-third mile asphalt oval. The racetrack is located three miles south of downtown Lake Geneva on Bloomfield Road.
