Ideal night
of racing at The Berg results in wins for May 5, 2000; Luxemburg, WI. - What a difference a week makes. Last week, the season opener was windy, cold and rainy. In contrast to a perfect night for racing Friday at Tri Star, which produced four new winners for week number two.
A full field took the green for the street stock main with Fred Davister taking charge followed by Aaron Thornton, James Van Rixal, Eddie Anschutz and James Tebon. A lone caution slowed the pace on lap 6, with Davister resuming his lead on the restart. Van Rixal moved into the runner up spot on lap 11, bringing Travis Van Straten and David Baenen to fill in the top four. They pulled away a bit from the rest of the field with another multi car battle behind for fifth. Lapped traffic played into the final laps, but Davister went on to record his first feature win of the year here. Van Rixal ran to his best finish ever in the division taking the runner up spot. Van Straten mirrored his run last week with third. Baenen took fourth. Leon Scott returned to Tri-Star this year and won the battle for fifth with Anschutz rounding out the top six.
Jeremy Christians is making northeastern Wisconsin his home during the 2000 season, making the trek from Horicon every week to run the three track series. He showed he will be a strong addition by taking the lead in the IMCA Stock Car feature on the first lap followed by Larry Ingebretson, Troy DeGrave, Benji LaCrosse and Rod Snellenberger. The race ran green until lap 12, when a series of three cautions slowed the pace. The field was still bunched, and Christians had his hands full holding onto the lead. On lap 14, LaCrosse moved into the runner up spot with Eric VanIten, Jason Czarapata and John Hienz moving in behind. With the green out for good on lap l6, it was anybodys race as the top six ran together. Christians was able to fend off all challengers to collect his first career feature win at the Luxemburg speed plant, LaCrosse challenged hard for the lead and pulled alongside on the final sprint to the checker to fall a half car length short for second. VanIten held third followed by Czarapata, Shawn Wagner and Brian Bruechert. The lack of cautions in the first two features did not carry to the mods as the main turned into a marathon event. Rookie, Robert Waechter took command for the opening 2 laps before veteran, Jerry Muenster powered into the top spot. Mike Klenz moved into second with R.M. Van Pay, Brian Mullen and Dan Ratajczak pulling in behind. With the caution out every 4 to 5 laps, the pack stayed bunched. Muenster held the lead with Van Pay and Mullen, making a good battle for the top spot. The three account for 50 feature wins and 7-track title here and over 50 years of experience on area tracks. Van Pay slipped into the lead on lap 12, but Muenster and Mullen helped swap the lead several times.
The final caution on lap 20 set a 5-lap dash to the win. Van Pay was in the lead with Mullen second. Muenster dropped from the race a couple laps earlier with a cut tire. Van Pay ran high, leaving the low groove open for Mullen, The pair ran side by side with Van Pay holding the edge the rest of the way for his first feature win of the season. Mullen was alongside at the line for second. Doug Maurer held off last weeks winner, Dave Zeitler for third. Ratajczak slipped into fifth with Klenz rounding out the top six.
Dan Davister set the opening lap pace in the Sport Truck main before cousin, Dave Davister took over the lead on lap 2. Dave pulled away from the pack leaving the tight race for second. Kevin Strebet and Dan Davister battled to the finish in that order. Jerry Scray, Ed Danoff and Jeff Scray made up the top six.
