Munster tops
hot Mod action on a cool night at The Berg! May 26, 2000; Luxemburg, WI. - A chilly start to the long Memorial Day weekend, but a competitive night for the track Friday at Tri Star.
Brad Anderegg started the modified main on the pole a set the pace at the drop of the green. Randie Back, Jerry Muenster, Todd Dart, Jared Siefert and Mike Mashl quickly dropped in behind. Muenster moved into the runner up spot by lap 3, and Mashl hooked up on the outside and pulled into third. The pair was reeling in the leader when the first caution appeared on lap 12. Jerry Muenster had dropped off the pace, but Eddie Muenster moved into the battle to third when the caution dropped, Anderegg had Mashl, Muenster, Back, Dart, R.M. Van Pay and Brian Mullen stacked up behind. When the green appeared, Mashl took to the inside of Anderegg and Muenster hooked outside, three wide into the first turn. Muenster found the bite he needed and down the back chute, pulled into the top spot, with Mashl settling into second. The leaders pulled ahead a bit with the battle for third gaining cars. Back, Van Pay, Dave Zeitler, Dart and Mullen were fighting for spots when a flat tire took Van Pay out of the mix. Two late race cautions made bunched the field. On the first, Mashl surprised Muenster and pulled to the inside and took the lead briefly on lap 22. Muenster would not be denied and powered back into the top spot, just before the final caution on lap 23. Muenster collected his first feature win here since May 9, 1997 with Mashl right behind in second. Current point leader, Zeitler settled for the third place finish with Dart taking fourth. Brian Mullen took fourth and Mike Klenz rounded out the top six.
A big mix up out of turn two on the opening lap of the Street Stock main allowed Jerry Kroll to move from 10th to the lead after the first lap. The next 16 taps clicked off non stop with Knoll maintaining the lead with heavy pressure from Tom Daubner, Mike Coel, and James Tebon. Kevin Jandrin, current point leader, Travis Van Straten and Fred Davister moved in on the leaders with five laps remaining. A final caution on lap 18 set up wild dash to the finish line. Kroll held on to win his second straight division feature with Daubner right behind James Tebon took third place with Davister sneaking by Van Straten on the final lap for fourth. Doug Laseke rounded out the top six runners.
Chad Wilcox led the first lap of the Stock Car main with Craig Paque taking a one lap stint at the front the next go-round. Rod Snellenberger powered to the inside and took the lead on lap 3. Tim Van De Hei and John Heinz pulled up in the leader a couple laps later and just as the caution appeared on lap 12, Van De Hei and Heinz got together which resulted in a fiat tire on each car, forcing a trip to pit lane. This put Pat Davister, Jason Czarapata, Brian Bruechert and point leader, Eric VanIten behind for the restart. Snellenberger was still in the front when the final caution showed on lap 16 with Davister right behind. Jay Matthias was now third with Czarapata and VanIten inline. Snellenberger collected his first division feature here this season with Davister, Matthias, Czarapata, VanIten making up the top 5. John Heinz recovered from the flat earlier to round out the top six. Dan Davister led the first 3 laps of the Sport Truck main with Jerry Scray taking over on lap 4. On lap 8, point leader, Kevin Strebel reeled in the leader and pulled by on the outside for the lead. Scray stayed with the leader to the finish with Strebel winning his third feature of the season.
