July 6, 2001; Luxemburg, WI. - What started out as a doubtful night, turned out well for three drivers winning their first features of the season and one repeat Friday night at the Luxemburg Tri Star Speedway. Quickly changing weather made track prep difficult and extra packing was needed. An hour before race time, a light rain shower started but stopped just before permanent damage was done allowing packing to be completed and a start only ½ hour late, with a fast, tacky race track.
The Mods were first up tonight with Dan Deau sitting on the pole. He pulled into the lead at the start a and after a couple cautions over the first couple laps, the green stayed out the distance. On the restart, Deau took off again and ran away from the field, leaving no doubt who would win unless some of the season long bad luck popped back up. The race was for the runner up spot throughout with Scott Boyea holding on until Shawn Olson moved into the spot on lap 5. Sean Jerovetz moved into third and by lap 8 had moved into second and set out after the long, gone leader. Todd Dart and Eddie Muenster moved into the top five and mixed it up with Boyea and Olson. Deau continued to run by himself, lapping cars as the laps ticked off. Jerovetz was closing on the leader, but the race ended just after Deau took the white flag, when a final caution appeared, ending the race as scored on the final lap. With Deau chalking up his first feature win of the season and first here since June 4, 1999. Jerovetz was second with Dart taking third over Muenster. Boyea finished his best run ever at Tri Star in fifth with pointy leader R.M. Van Pay rounding out the top six. Mark Derenne was the early leader of the Stock Car main followed by Travis Annoye, Tony Bouche, Brandon Mindak, Mike Weitor and Larry Ingebretson. Derenne led the way until a restart on lap 6. Annoye was able to gain the edge on the leader, but only for 1 lap, before Bouche moved into the top spot. Point leader, Benji LaCrosse and Eric VanIten were making their ways to the front and on lap 9, LaCrosse found an opening to the inside and took charge. VanIten followed right behind, and when LaCrosse drifted wide in turn three, moved into the top spot. For the last half of the race, the pair swapped the lead a couple times, swapping the inside line. A final lead pass occurred on lap 16, and VanIten would not give up the inside lane again, to run to his first feature win of the season here and first since June 18, l999. LaCrosse was right behind the leader looking for as gap, but the door stayed shut giving him the runner up finish. Larry Karcz, Jr moved into third on lap 14 and stayed their to the end holding off Ingebretson who had his bests season high finish in fourth. Dave Bouche and Pat Davister rounded out the top six. Jeff Treml set the pace for the first 2 laps of the Street finale with Laurel Ettien, Jeff Vlies, David Baenen and Mike Coel behind. After a lap 2 caution, Vlies stormed by on the outside into the top spot. Ettien had to pit during the caution giving up his spot. Coel moved into the runner up spot with Jesse Colwell tagging along into third by lap 4. The trio pulled away from the pack for the rest of the race with an excellent battle for the top spot. Vlies prevailed and won his first feature of the season with Cole taking second, holding off point leader, Colwell. Charlie Kroll moved up to finish fourth with Leon Schott taking fifth and Treml rounding out the top six. Jeff Scray led the Sport Truck main flag to flag, but not without race long pressure from Jerry Scray, Jr and point leader, Dan Davister. Jeff took the checker, his second in three weeks, with Jerry Right behind in second, Davister held off defending champion, Kevin Strebel to take third. Ben Kroll and Dave Davister rounded out the top six. SUMMARY IMCA MODIFIED IMCA STOCK CAR STREET STOCK SPORT TRUCK |
