Special; Luxemburg, WI. - The Luxemburg Tri Star Speedway is set for a big night of racing action on the 1/3 mile clay oval this week, when the track plays host to an IMCA Modified National and Midwest Motorsports Stock Car series event. The race will be run on Thursday night, August 16 which will allow several of the series traveling drivers to make the run to northeastern Wisconsin. There will be no Friday night racing this week except as a rain date for the Thursday night program. The Modifieds will be running for a $1500 to win feature event and the Stock Cars will compete in a $1000 to win feature. The night will be sponsored locally by Concrete Finishers of Luxemburg. The pit gates open at 4PM on Thursday night with the grandstand opening at 5 PM. Racing will start at 6:30. It has been over 10 years since there has been a National event run in the area and interest is very high. Local drivers will be joined by a group of travelers competing for the series titles. Only the Modified and Stock Car divisions will be in action.. The Street Stock and Sport Truck divisions have the week off. All four divisions will be in action for the final night of racing on Friday, August 24. Season point battles will be decided in all four divisions. The Modified title is up for grabs with R.M. Van Pay and Brian Mullen locked in a tie for the point lead entering the final; night at 375. Both drivers are three time series champs at Tri Star and the race to the title should be an exciting one. Benji LaCrosse holds a big margin over Tim Van De Hei for the Stock Car division title, 394 370. The gap is enough to ensure LaCrosse his first home town track championship. The Street Stock title is a 2 car battle with Jesse Colwell looking for his first career track title with 399 points. Mike Coel led the standing during the first half of the season and remains in contention with 389 marks entering the final night. Kevin Strebel is looking for his third straight Sport Truck title heading into the final night with a 393 385 margin over Dan Davister. Dave Davister is also in the running in third place with 383. Racing on the 24th will start at the regular 7 PM slot. The final two programs of the season should offer some more great racing action that you wont want to miss. |
