Mullen Masters Mid-Season Mod Main on Concrete Finishers Night at Luxemburg!
By Dave Panske

June 22, 2001; Luxemburg, WI. - Tonight was Concrete Finishers Mid Season Championship night at the Luxemburg Tri Star Speedway. It seemed different because there are only four races complete so far, but nice weather was on hand tonight to bring the season to .500 and produced three new feature winners.

Jeff Scray (#21) picked up his first career Sport Truck feature win Friday night completing a sweep of the action.

Joe Van Ooyen paced the opening laps of the Street Stock feature before Fred Davister took the outside line into the top spot on lap 5. Two laps later, Charlie Kroll pulled into the runner up spot and challenged on the inside.

The battle for the point lasted until lap 14, when Kroll finally got the edge through turns three and four and took over the lead. Once in front, he pulled away to pick up his first feature win of the season. Davister ran alone to hold down the second place finish. Mike Coel, Jeff Vlies, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jamie Colwell and Jesse Colwell ran tight together to the finish with the order remaining the same.

Travis Annoye grabbed the lead at the start of the Stock Car main, setting the pace for the first 2 circuits before a caution slowed the pace. Annoye had to visit pit lane and Dave Bouche inherited the top spot. One lap after the restart, Brian Bruechert took to the inside of Bouche while Pat Davister took the far outside line to make a three wide battle for the lead out of turn two.

After a lap, Bruechert was alone at the front and Davister settled into the runner up spot. Davister was working hard on the leader when his engine suddenly went entering turn one on lap 11. This left Bruechert with a big lead over Bouche, but a different incident brought out the caution and bunched the field.

Bruechert again set the pace after the restart. But Benji LaCrosse and Tim Van De Hei took the outside line by Bouche to challenge the leader. LaCrosse used the outside line to pull even with Bruechert and after three laps, was into the top spot.

Van de Hei took the same route entering turn three, but as he went by, the engine on Bruecherts car let go leaving a line of fluids on the black track. Several cars behind slid in the wet stuff, but kept going. At the front, Van de Hei went to the inside of LaCrosse for the lead out of turn 2. When they pair hit the lick in turn three, Van De Hei looped his car but LaCrosse was far enough outside to hold on and keep the lead.

Van de Hei pulled back into line, back in the field. LaCrosse drove off to win his first hometown feature of the season. Bouche finished the run in second with point leader, Jay Matthias in third.

Ben Kroll finished in fourth, but was later disqualified for refusing a claim, which put Craig Paque into the fourth spot followed by Dave Budzban and Dylan Heilmann. After the spin, Van De Hei used the last 6 laps to run back through the pack to finish eighth.

Tom Baumgart led the first 2 laps of the modified main but a bunch of cautions slowed the race throughout the first 7 laps. Dan Ratajczak took over the point on lap 3, and was still leading the way when the green stayed out on lap 8 for an extended time. Todd Dart, Brian Mullen, Chris Derenne, Randy LeMieux and Jared Siefert were behind the leader. Mullen took no time to move to the front on the restart and once in the lead, pulled away from the pack leaving the battle for the runner up spot. That race stayed close until a final caution on lap 19, gave the pack one last shot at the leader.

Dart moved into the season spot on the restart and pulled up on Mullen for a couple laps before the point leader again pulled away to record his third feature win in the five run this season. Dart and Ratajczak made the next couple finishing spots. Randie Back edged Jerry Muenster for fourth with LeMieux rounding out the top six.

In a repeat of the heat race, Jeff Scray used the front row starting spot to the full extent and ran off with a sweep of the Sport Truck action for the night. The feature win was his first career feature checker. Dave Davister, Kevin Strebel, Jerry Scray, Shawn Dorn and Dan Scharenbrock made up the top six finishers of the race.

Each feature winner and one hard charger in each race received extra cash awards from the nights sponsor.

Weekly racing is scheduled to continue throughout the rest of the summer. With all of the rain so far this year, promotors have had a nightmare trying to alter schedules to get he sponsors thier nights.

Luxemburg just straightened out their Coca Cola nights, again. This friday night, June 29, will be the Coca Cola Driver Autograph night. The first 150 kids will receive a checkered flag and the drivers will be in front of the grandstand at intermission to sign autographs.

The WFAR Trophy night from this week is still being re-scheduled for a bit later this year.

The Coca Cola Big Wheel Races from a couple weeks ago will now take place on Friday night, July 20.
