Luxemburg Speedway Announces New 4 Cylinder Class!
By Joe Verdegan

March 15, 2002; Luxemburg, WI. - A new entry level division has been created at the new Luxemburg Speedway to encourage drivers to get into stock car racing without having to take out a second mortgage.

Track manager Rick Goral announced at a driver's meeting March 14 that a new division called the sport four's will compete every third week at the third-mile, clay oval in 2002. The sport four's feature compact, four cylinder cars which feature front wheel drive only with a 104" wheelbase. The cars will feature a four point rollcage. The machines will remain stock and very affordable. Costs to go racing in this class could vary from $750 to $1,500.

"We're looking at a division that teenagers and adults can get involved with and not go broke doing it," said Goral. "I looked at several tracks across the Midwest and without question that fastest growing entry level division is the compact cars. They are affordable because there are so many of them around. We expect our car counts to grow significantly each night they run."

As part of the track's 2002 schedule which will be released soon the sport four's will rotate every third week with the sport trucks and the bomber class from Door County Speedway. "As the season goes on we'll gauge car counts with the three classes. We'll make adjustments down the road based upon our what kind of counts we get with the respective classes."

One unique feature with this class is a rule limiting the division to first time drivers only. "If you have ever raced in any other class here you cannot compete with the sport fours," said Goral. "This class is meant to be affordable and for beginners."

The division will feature three-wide starts with twenty-four cars starting a feature event. A progressive racing format will be followed as drivers will qualify into the feature through their heats.

The season, the first under new track operators Lakeshore Motorsports Promotions will begin on Friday night April 26 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars and street stocks will compete weekly. Luxemburg Speedway is located off highway 54 at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds in Luxemburg. For more information or rules call 920 863 8446. The track's website is www.luxemburgspeedway.com.
