MANITOWOC EXPO RACEWAY ANNOUNCES TWO
SPECIALS FOR 2002!
By Bill Schlei |
December 22, 2001; Manitowoc, WI - The new Manitowoc
Expo Raceway has announced today that they have added two special events to their 2002
calendar.
Race Committee chairman David Gauger announced plans for a special on Wednesday September
4th featuring the Grand National stock cars from Chilton and the Mini-stocks from 141
Speedway in Francis Creek.
"With the IMCA Modifieds and stock cars being away at Boone, IA. that week, we have
the opportunity to let two of the more popular local classes try our facility and let
their fans see these cars in a new atmosphere." said Gauger.
"It also leaves room for any IMCA stock cars that don't make the trip to Boone to
come here and compete against the Chilton cars."
In addition, Gauger also unveiled plans for a Fall Invitational that has tentatively been
scheduled for September 20 and 21st (with a rain date of Sept. 22) with a format similar
to that of the Chilton Invitational, which takes place the weekend after.
"Our facility is a natural for this type of event," said Gauger. "We have a
location that is central to many area tracks allowing for a comfortable tow for the
competitors. And, for those who wish to stay overnight, the Expo grounds has a camping
area with all the facilities (hookups, electrical, showers)."
Expo is also working on an IRA Sprint Car show for this season with a date to be
announced.
The new Manitowoc Expo Raceway will open it's regular season on May 11th, 2002 with a
regular Wednesday night program featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock cars, Street stocks
and an "econo" Hobby class for beginners.
More information about the regular racing program and the above mentioned specials will be
available at an informational meeting on January 3, 2002 at the Manitowoc Expo Grounds
located at the intersection of I-43 and Highway 151 in Manitowoc.
