By Bill Schlei |
March 15, 2002; Manitowoc, WI - Officials at the
Manitowoc Co. Expo have announced that they have reached an agreement with the Interstate
Racing Association to bring the IRA Winged Sprint Cars to the Manitowoc Expo Raceway for a
special Show on Sunday, June 30th.
"We are excited to have the IRA back again this year," said Dave Gauger, track
promoter at Manitowoc Expo. "The winged sprints always put on a great show that the
fans talk about for weeks afterward and this year should be no different".
Among the drivers on hand for the event will be fan favorite Donnie Goeden. Goeden a
native of Kewaskum, WI. finished second in last years point standings to series champ Kim
Mock.
Goeden, along with Joe Roe, Scott Neitzel, and 2001 Rookie of the Year Scott Biertzer are
among a group of second generation racers with names that are more than familiar to area
race fans.
Gauger went on to say that "Although Manitowoc is a relatively new venue for the IRA
Sprints, this will be an IRA points race so these guys will have to give it their all to
remain competitive for the season championship."
Manitowoc Expo is a 1/3 mile clay oval with newly improved banking that will allow these
cars to drive faster through the turns achieving speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour in
the straights.
