Veteran racer Tom Reffner nabs CWRA Marshfield main!

June 19, 1999; Marshfield, WI: - Although Mother Nature threatened rain all day, almost the full race program was completed. The rains didn't reach us until the middle of the CWRA Late Model feature. The kids rides during intermission were a big hit as over 35 race cars and motorcycles volunteered to give rides.

Brian Back of Vesper set a new track record in the CWRA Late Model qualifying, beating the record set in 1998 by Bruce Honkala. Cale Laessig of Marshfield also set a new track record in the CWSSA Super Stocks of a 20.323. The Legends, fast timer was Ben Pettis of Eau Claire, the 1-Man Cruisers, Doug Becker of Granton.

Tom Reffner took the early lead in the CWRA Late Model feature, followed by Rocky Breezer and Joe Krzykowski. On lap two, Mike Brahmstedt took third from Krzykowski and then took second from Breezer on lap nine. Breezer and Brahmstedt battled over second for the next couple of laps until lap 13 when Brian Seubert grabbed it.

By lap 14 the rains began to come down. A spin caused the race to stop and we were unable to resume. The race was completed on lap 14. Reffner took home the win, Seubert second, Brahmstedt third, Rory Melbinger fourth and Breezer fifth.

In the CWSSA Super Stocks, Bernie Fritz Jr. held the lead for the first five laps. Lap six, Tim Plowman passed Fritz for the lead. By the half-way point, Plowman was leading, followed by Merle Weinfurter and John Bell. Lap 11, Jason Szymkowiak broke into the third spot.

61999b.jpg (12659 bytes) Current CWSSA Super Stock point leader Cale Laessig (#01) had another very successful night at Marshfield Speedway.  The local racer established a new track record for the class and later took home a feature victory.

Lap 14, Szymkowiak moved into second. As the battle was going on up front, fast timer Cale Laessig was making his way through the field from his 12th place start. Lap 17, Laessig passed Plowman for the lead. At the checkered, Laessig won, Szymkowiak second, Shawn Stelzer third, Plowman fourth and Weinfurter fifth.

Jim Bradle held the lead for laps one and two of the Legend feature. Lap three, Russ Weiler had made his way from a tenth place start, to the front and passed Bradle for the lead. Fast timer, Ben Pettis was behind Weiler on lap four, but Pettis made a pit stop and was unable to return to the race. Mike Bula was then running second, Milt Kemp Jr., third. Kemp took second on lap 11, putting Bula into third. On the checkered flag lap Dwayne Vetrone took third from Bula for the finish. Weiler won, Kemp second, Vetrone third, Bula fourth, and Chad Schnitzler fifth.

61999c.jpg (13632 bytes) Perhaps the bravest group of races to take to the track each season are these two wheeled warriors.  Motorcycle race at Marshfield Speedway keeps fans on the edge of their seat!

Fourteen Motorcycle competitors came to the Marshfield Super Speedway tonight, all the top heat winners were mounted on 600 dirt track bikes. Last times feature winner Rick Bretl of Appleton placed first in the second heat, while Lee Johnson of Shawano won the first heat. The motorcycles will return on July 10th for a double program due to the rain out.

The 1-Man Cruiser feature was never started because of the rain, it will be run next Saturday night. So there will be double 1-Man features next week.

The 2-Man Cruisers were also unable to run, they will not be making up their event, they will only race one event next week.

This Saturday is WSAW/Channel 7, WDEZ/102FM, V&H Inc, Monroe Truck Equipment, Rainbow Bingo & Casino Bucks Night. All grandstand admission only $2.00.
