June 26, 1999; Marshfield, WI: - It was a great day for racing out here at the 1/2 Mile, perfect weather. At the beginning of this last week, almost half of the track was re-paved, through turns one and two. The new surface with some angle changes was fast, but since the sun had been beating on it all week long, it didn't have a chance to harden.

The repaving process.  During the week track owner Jim Langreck repaved just about half of the Marshfield Speedway with new asphalt.  The new asphalt replaces the patches that were coming up in turn one.

Track owner, Jim Langreck sprayed thousands of gallons of water onto the hot asphalt to cool it down so that it wasn't too soft to race on. Unfortunately, it wasn't cool enough for qualifying. The races were all lined-up by the drivers' average qualifying time for the year. By race time the track was ready and we were able to start the events for the night.

When the CWRA Late Model feature began, Baird Reffner took off with the lead for the first three laps. On lap four, Bobby Stolze Jr. grabbed it from him, but Stolze couldn't hold off Wayne Breitenfeldt, who then took it over. Stolze was now running in second, with Jeff Weinfurter and Rory Melbinger close behind. Rocky Breezer was moving through the field and passed Melbinger for fourth on lap six.

Wayne Breitenfeldt (#14) who won the 1996 CWRA Late Model championship at Marshfield Super Speedway has made occasional appearances this season.  Tonight he made the most of it winning the feature event.

Melbinger came back on lap seven to reclaim his position. Lap ten Joe Krzykowski passed both Breezer and Melbinger to take the fourth spot. Brian Back, who started in 12th place worked his way through the field to take fourth away from Krzykowski on lap 15. Back was looking for the top spot and passed Stolze for third on lap 20. There weren't enough laps left in the race for Back to get Weinfurter and Breitenfeldt. Breitenfeldt took home the checkered for his first feature win here this year. Weinfurter second, Back third, Stolze fourth and Krzykowski fifth.

Scott Hamel led five laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Allan Sankey then grabbed the lead for lap six, but Hamel took it back for the next four laps. Judd Brandl had made his way from the back of the pack to take the lead on lap 11. Cale Laessig who started in 14th, wasn't far behind. Laessig passed Brandl for the lead on lap 17 and held on for the win. Brandl finished second, Jason Szymkowiak third, Shawn Stelzer fourth and Jason Kirsling fifth.

On a hot streak!  Cale Laessig (#01) is the current point leader in the CWSSA Super Stock division at Marshfield.  The win helped pad his point lead as he tries for his first ever track championship.

Rodney Feltz won this week's 1-Man Cruiser feature, after taking the lead from Don Tieman on lap six. Doug Becker placed second, Chad Simone third, Darrell Paschel fourth and Randy Bargender fifth.

In the make-up 1-Man Cruiser feature from last week, Doug Becker took the win, Tieman second, Simone third, Paschel fourth and Bargender fifth.

This week's 2-Man Cruiser event was won by Feltz and Tim Sobzak. Second went to Gary Schallock and Tim Dupee. Third place to Mike Gwidt and Todd Neiter. Fourth, Chuck Green and Chris Sternweis, and fifth to Jon Vayda and Pete Stargardt.

Up and over!  Pete Kempf (#97) got his CWRA Late Model upside down in practice.  He was uninjured in the accident but did damage his car.

Last week's make-up 2-Man Cruiser event was won by Feltz and Sobzak, second was taken by Sternweis and Green. Third went to Eric Luepke and Ted Woodkey, fourth was Larry Brage and Donald Nigh. Fifth place was taken by Chad Scholl and Brian Jensen.
