Two in a row for Melbinger at in CWRA Late Model action!

August 7, 1999; Marshfield, WI: -  As the ominous skies threatened rain, the drivers and fans poured in. Qualifying began, Cale Laessig set a new track record, beating his own old track record. Brian Back set a new track record in the CWRA Late Models only to lose it to his father Gary shortly afterward. Qualifying came to a conclusion and the rains came down.

Rory Melbinger scored his second straight CWRA Late Model feature win this evenings at Marshfield Speedway.  The victory edges him ever closer to winning his first title behind the wheel of a Late Model.  Melbinger has previously won a title at Marshfield before the track was paved in 1996.

Once the rain ended the track was dried and on went the races. In the CWRA Late Model feature, Wayne Breitenfeldt grabbed the lead from pole sitter Joe Krzykowski, and he began to pull away from the field as Krzykowski and Brian Seubert battled it out. Gary and Brian Back were moving through the field and both were in the top five by lap eight. A spin on lap 14 took Brian Back out the event and Gary had to re-start at the back of the pack.

Breitenfeldt lost his lead on the re-start to Rory Melbinger who started 14th. Mark Eswein and Dean LaPointe passed Breitenfeldt on lap 16 for second and third. Breitenfeldt reclaimed third on the next lap but couldn't get second back from Eswein. Melbinger won, Eswein second and Breitenfeldt third.

Closing in....Judd Brandl (#27) earned another feature win in the CWSSA Super Stock division.  As the weeks have wound down Brandl has been closing in on current point leader in the class Cale Laessig.  Both drivers are looking to score their first career championship. 8899a.jpg (17358 bytes)

Cary Lyons held the early lead in the CWSSA Super Stocks. Tim Plowman took it from him on lap six. Lap ten David Pagels passed Plowman for the lead. On lap 12 Judd Brandl claimed the lead as his. Shawn Stelzer challenged him for it, but had to settle for second. Meanwhile John Bell was making his way through the field from 14th and grabbed third on lap 16. Brandl won, Stelzer second, John Bell third.

Robert Detwiler led lap one of the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Chad Simone took it for the next six laps, only to lose it to Doug Becker. Becker won, Simone second and Ric Anderson third. The team of Gary Schallock and Tim Dupee won the 2-Man Cruiser event. Rod Feltz and Fran Esser second, and Paul Hasenhorl and Scott Strigel third.

At Marshfield we've got races on two wheels and races with two drivers!!
