August 28, 1999; Marshfield, WI: - The race was on for points tonight, being it was Season Championship for the Late Models, Super Stocks and Legends. Rory Melbinger won the points championship in the Late Models and Ben Pettis in the Legends. The closest points race was between Cale Laessig and Judd Brandl. At the start of the night they were only seven points apart. Both trying to best the other, Brandl won the dash and the feature but Laessig still took home his first Season Championship with only five points over Brandl.

In the CWRA Late Model feature, Mike Brahmstedt led the first five laps until Wayne Breitenfeldt took over. Todd Stapleman had followed Breitenfeldt to the top and was running second, with Brahmstedt falling back to third. Two cautions on lap six sent Brahmstedt and Joe Krzykowski to the back of the pack. Mark Eswein now moved into third on the re-start. On lap nine, Stapleman passed Breitenfeldt for the lead.
Eswein followed Stapleman and passed Breitenfeldt on lap ten. On lap 18, lapped traffic became a factor, but the top three held their positions. Stapleman won, Eswein second and Breitenfeldt third.

Cary Lyons held the lead, then passed it on to Tim Plowman in the CWSSA Super Stock feature. On lap ten, Judd Brandl passed Plowman for the lead. Chad Brundidge had made his way to third by lap 11. Lap 14, he moved into second. Cale Laessig was working through the field and on the checkered flag he got third from Plowman. Brandl won, Brundidge second and Laessig third.

Ben Pettis (#28) wrapped up a season of solid performances in Legend car action at Marshfield Speedway with a trip to the winners circle after tonight's feature event. Pettis won the championship for the Legend cars at Marshfield. |
Tom Schnitzler led the first three laps of the Legend feature. Lap four Ben Pettis grabbed it. Russ Weiler took second from Schnitzler on lap five, but the battle wasn't over. Schnitzler and Weiler went back and forth over the next four laps until Trent Snyder took third from Weiler. On lap 15, a spin involving Snyder and Pat Hinner sent both to the back. Dwayne Vetrone then filled the third spot. Paul Menard passed Vetrone and then passed Schnitzler to take over second. Pettis won, Menard second and Schnitzler third.

Something old something new! Glen Bargender (#10) was a new face in victory lane after winning the 1-man Cruiser feature, while Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser (#6) have visited the winner's circle before as a dominant team in the 2-man Cruiser division. |

In the 1-Man Cruiser feature, Matt Horn led, then it was Chad Simone. A spin on lap two in turn two took both of them out of the race as well as Doug Becker, Mike Fitzgerald and Travis Zvolena. Glen Bargender then inherited the lead. Robert Hainzlsperger took it from Bargender on lap seven, but on the white flag lap Bargender grabbed it back. Bargender won, Duwayne Davis second, Hainzlsperger third.
The team of Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser won the 2-Man Cruiser race. Gary Schallock and Tim Dupee second, and Chuck Green and Chris Sternweis third.
Next week is the CWRA Late Model Race of Champions, presented by CARQUEST, Miller and WDEZ. Divisions racing are, CWRA Late Models, Super Stocks, 1-Man Cruisers, 2-Man Cruisers and Motorcycles. The autograph session begins at 5:30, qualifying at 6:45.
The next event will be September 11th with the CARQUEST Auto Parts inviatational. On that veening the $22,000 Dodge Dakota Pace truck will be given away to some lucky winner!
Marshfield Super Speedway is a half-mile paved oval, located three miles west of Marshfield, WI on county hwy H.
