May 15, 1999; Marshfield, WI: -  Mother Nature put up a good fight be we were able to get every race planned at Marshfield Speedway completed this evening.  Mark Eswein set fast time in the CWRA Late Models.   Setting fast time in the CWSSA Super Stocks was Cale Laessig.  In the Pro-4's Brian Besaw took the top slot and Randy Bargender set fast time in the 1-man Cruiser division.  It marked the first time the the 1-man Cruiser's have qualified at the raceway.

The start of the CWRA Late Model feature was wild as an eight car pile-up ensued.  Fortunately for the drivers only a single car was not able to restart the feature race.

An eight car pile-up at the drop of the green in the CWRA Late Model feature took out only one car.  When the race resumed, Troy Nelson grabbed the early lead in the race.  Brian Seubert followed in second with Rocky Breezer right behind.  A spin on lap five caused another caution taking and taking out another car from the race.  Lap six was completed when two cars spun causing yet another caution period. 

The first repeat feature winner in CWRA Late Model action this season at Marshfield Speedway is Troy Nelson (#66) who scored this evening's win.  Nelson led the race from wire to wire, holding off a late race from Rory Melbinger to that the checkered flag.

The race restarted with Nelson leading, Brian Back second, Breezer third, Rory Melbinger fourth and Seubert fifth.  On lap eight Breezer passed Back for the second spot and on lap 10, Melbinger passed Back for the third position.   Back and Melbinger challenged back and forth for the next three laps.

Melbinger was on the move and advanced to second on lap 14, taking the position from Breezer.  Nelson had the lead, Melbinger second, Breezer third, Seubert fourth and Back fifth.  Eswein the evenings fast qualifier passed Back on lap 17 to advance into the top five.  At the finish Nelson won, Melbinger second, Breezer third, Seubert fourth and Eswein fifth.

Former Pure Stock champion Johnny Bell (#99) is now in his second year of Super Stock racing.  Tonight he managed to outrun his competitors in that class and score the feature victory.

The CWSSA Super Stock feature saw John Bell take the lead on lap one.  Scott Hamel, Carl Saylor, Brian Stroik and Merle Weinfurter held the top five spots.  Merle Weinfurter moved into fourth on lap two and advanced into third on lap four. 

On lap five the field shuffled around, with Bell still leading, Saylor held down second, Hamel third, Cale Laessig fourth and Weinfurter now running fifth.  The fast cars were quickly moving through the field.  On the sixth round Laessig moved into third, with Weinfurter and Jason Szymkowiak following in fourth and fifth. 

The fast group continued their charge towards the front with Laessig grabbing second on lap nine with Weinfurter still in tow now up to third.   Weinfurter was not content to follow Laessig and overtook him for the runner-up spot behind Bell on lap ten.

Shawn Stelzer was also on the move, making his presence felt as he moved in on Laessig to take third on lap 17 of the 20 lap race.  When the event concluded Bell won, followed by Weinfurter, Stelzer, Laessig and Szymkowiak in the top five positions.

The Pro 4's which normally compete on dirt in Eastern Wisconsin had a chance to try out Marshfield's big half-mile paved oval.  Al Derks (#87) was the man who adapted best taking the feature win.

Al Derks won the Pro-4 feature, with Brian Besaw and Ryan Kamba following.

Chad Simone won the 1-man Crusier feature, Doug Becker was second, Randy Bargender third and Glen Bargender fourth.

Tonight's Cruiser Winners:   In the left photo Chad Simone (#7) won a single man feature race, while the team of Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser scored the win in the 2-man variety!
