| Melbinger tops CWRA Late Model action! |
May 22, 1999; Marshfield, WI: - It was a great night for racing here at the "Big 1/2 Mile." Mark Eswein set fast time in the CWRA Late Model division, Shawn Stelzer in the CWSSA Super Stock division, Ben Pettis in the Legends and Doug Becker in the 1-Man Cruisers.

Rory Melbinger turned in some very strong performances Saturday evening at Marshfield Speedway. Melbinger won both the feature and dash event, while also turning third quick time and finishing second in his heat race. Melbinger currently lies second in the CWRA Late Model standings at the track. |
John Frazier and Rocky Breezer started a battle when the green dropped on the CWRA Late Model feature. On lap nine Ryan Hanson and Joe Krzykowski got around Breezer, taking second and third respectively. On lap ten Rory Melbinger passed Breezer for fourth.

Melbinger made another move on lap 12 taking third from Krzykowski. Lap 19 Melbinger grabbed second from Hanson and then took the lead on lap 20. By lap 22 the field had shuffled, Melbinger leading, Eswein, Pete Kempf, Hanson and Mark Mackesy, who started in the back, in hot pursuit.
Over the next three laps it was a dead lock and they finished Melbinger, Eswein, Kempf, Hanson and Mackesy.

Cary Lyons held the lead for the first lap in the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Judd Brandl took it for the following three laps until Cale Laessig caught and passed him for it on lap five. With Laessig in the lead, Brandl, Jason Szymkowiak, Allan Sankey and Shawn Stelzer were following. Stelzer passed Szymkowiak on lap eight and then Brandl on lap nine. Dave Pagels also made a move on lap nine into fifth. Merle Weinfurter took that spot from Pagels on lap 11. A spin on lap 13 put Weinfurter and Pagels to the back. On lap 14 John Bell grabbed the fifth position. Laessig won, Stelzer second, Szymkowiak third, Brandl fourth and Bell fifth.

In the Legend feature, Jim Bradle and Darrel Bauman challenged each other back and forth until Ben Pettis took the lead from both of them. Chad Schnitzler moved into second behind Pettis. On lap ten Dean Fisher took that spot from Schnitzler. This pushed Schnitzler into third followed by Milt Kemp Jr. and Dan O'Connell. Kemp took third on lap 11 and Russ Weiler moved into fifth on lap 12. Dwayne Vetrone took fifth from Weiler on lap 17. On the white flag lap Vetrone and Weiler passed Schnitzler for fourth and fifth respectively. Pettis won, Fisher second, Kemp third, Vetrone fourth and Weiler fifth.
Darrell Paschel led the first lap of the 1-Man Cruiser feature. On lap two Randy Bargender took the lead from Paschel. Doug Becker moved through the field and was in second by lap five. Randy Bargender won, Becker second, Paschel third, Chad Simone fourth and Donald Tieman fifth.

Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser won the 2-Man Cruiser event. The first runners-up were Chuck Green and Chris Sternweis. Third place was taken by Gary Schallock and Tim Dupee.
Next week's events are sponsored by Weber's Farm Milk Store, Nasonville Dairy and WCCN The Rock. Time trials at 6 p.m., racing begins at 7:30. Divisions racing are CWRA Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, 1-Man Cruisers, 2-Man Cruisers and for the first time this year, Motorcycles.
Marshfield Speedway is a half-mile paved oval located three miles west of Marshfield Wisconsin on County Highway H.
