Back Best in CWRA Late Model action at Marshfield!

June 5, 1999; Marshfield, WI: -  It was a humid night for the first Bucks Night of the 1999 season. Even though the storms were threatening the completion of the night all events were finished.

Rory Melbinger started out the night with fast time in the CWRA Late Model division and Cale Laessig in the CWSSA Super Stock division. Charlie Menard set the pace in the Legends with his brother Paul Menard taking second place less than a tenth of a second behind him. Setting fast time in the 1-Man Cruiser division was Doug Becker.

Gary Back (#26) became the first repeat winner in CWRA Late Model action this season at Marshfield Speedway.  Back who took the lead in the closing laps of tonight's main event, went on to record his second win of the 1999 racing season. 6599b.jpg (16389 bytes)

Pole sitter Baird Reffner grabbed the early lead in the CWRA Late Model feature. Reffner was followed by Dean LaPointe and John Frazier. On lap ten Frazier passed LaPointe for second. LaPointe reclaimed his position on lap 14.

A spin on lap 16 took out both LaPointe and Frazier. Lap 17 Gary Back, Rory Melbinger and Jeremy Lepak passed Reffner for first, second and third places. Back won, Melbinger second, Lepak third, Reffner fourth and Keith Witt fifth. 

6599a.jpg (12548 bytes) Current CWSSA Super Stock point leader Cale Laessig (#01) put his ride in the winners circle after the feature race and increased his point lead.

Brian Stroik led the first seven laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature until Allan Sankey passed him for the lead. Scott Hamel moved up behind Sankey for second, Merle Weinfurter third, Wayne Mackesy fourth and Shawn Stelzer fifth. Lap nine Weinfurter moved into second and Stelzer into fourth. Stelzer passed Hamel and Weinfurter to take second.

By lap 11 fast timer Cale Laessig had moved his way through the field into third. Lap 14 Laessig took second from Stelzer. Laessig took the lead on lap 17 . Laessig won, Sankey second, Jason Szymkowiak third, Stelzer fourth and Weinfurter. 

6599c.jpg (14911 bytes) Paul Menard (#81) found the fast lane around the big-half mile paved oval in the Legends main event and came home this evenings winner.

Jim Bradle held the lead for the first lap of the Legends feature. Curt Gnatzig led laps two and three until Dwayne Vetrone took it on lap four. Paul Menard grabbed the lead from Vetrone on lap five. By lap six Charlie Menard had moved into second. Lap 15 Ben Pettis moved into the top five. Lap 16 Pettis passed Russ Weiler for fourth. Paul Menard won, Charlie Menard second, Vetrone third, Pettis fourth and Weiler fifth.

Rodney Feltz won the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Doug Becker second, Darrell Paschel third, Randy Bargender fourth and Glen Bargender fifth.

Winners of the 2-Man Cruiser event were Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser. Second place, Gary Schallock and Tim Dupee, third was Jason Blenker and John Kampert Sr.

They've been here before!  The team of Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser have the combination down in the 2-man Cruiser division, taking their trusty "Zebra Car" to yet another victory. 6599d.jpg (14101 bytes)

This Tuesday, June 8, is the Business After 5 night plus a full race program. The Rusty Wallace show car will be on display and NASCAR driver Kevin Cywinski will be appearing to sign autographs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. racing at 7:30.

On next Saturday night, June 12th, there is a full race program plus Mid-America Super Truck racing.
