Field grabs first career Late Model feature win at Marshfield!

July 1, 2000; Marshfield, WI - It was an action packed night of racing on WDEZ 101.9 FM,
V & H Inc, CARQUEST & Monroe Truck Equipment Bucks Night. Scott Field set fast time in the CARQUEST Super Late Models and winning the feature earning his place in the Race of Champions at the end of the year. Johnny Bell had a double tonight winning his heat and the feature.

Scott Field (#6) earned his first career Super Late Model victory at Marshfield Super Speedway.  Field made a pass on the final lap of the feature race to earn the trip to victory lane!

In the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature, Monte Gress led the first eight laps. Rick Grunden held second position for five laps until Jeff Weinfurter passed him. Scott Brandt bounced in and out of the third spot for several laps until claiming it. Grunden began to fall back through the field and Gary Back began moving up. Lap nine Weinfurter took the lead, Gress fell to second, Brandt third, Back fourth and Brahmstedt. Lap 12 Back passed Gress for second.

On lap 14 the first caution was brought out for Grunden who spun on his own in turns three and four, and was unable to return. Rory Melbinger was also out on the lap 14 due to transmission problems. When the race re-started Weinfurter was in the lead, Gress second, and Brandl third. Lap 17 Brahmstedt passed Brandl for third, and then Gress for second. Lap 19 Scott Field had made his way through the field and got second. He then set his sites on the leader Weinfurter. He began chasing Weinfurter down, and he caught him on the white flag lap. Field won, Weinfurter second, Mark Mackesy third, Back fourth and Brahmstedt fifth.

Dave Keays (#2x), show in the left photo, scored his first career Legend Car feature victory.  Keays had also set fast time for the evening.  In the right photo Johnny Bell (#99) brought his Lincoln Continental boded racer to the checkered flag and won the Super Stock feature race this evening.

Dave Pagels led the first two laps of the CARQUEST Super Stock feature. Matt Raykowski led lap three. The two changed positions for several laps until Pagels got the lead. Lap nine Johnny Bell got the lead from Pagels. Cale Laessig was quickly moving through the field and was in second on lap 13. Allan Sankey made his way into third. Laessig tried to catch Bell but ran out of laps. Bell won, Laessig second, Sankey third, Merle Weinfurter fourth and Brian Stroik fifth.

Tom Schnitzler led the first three laps of the Legend feature. Points leader Milt Kemp Jr. took the lead for the next six laps, until Dave Keays caught him on lap ten. Russ Weiler moved up from sixth into third. Keays won, Kemp second, Weiler third, Pat Hinner fourth and Dean Fisher fifth.

In the 1-Man Cruiser feature, Darrell Paschel led the first two laps. Don Tieman Jr. led for the next six laps until Doug Becker took over. Duwayne Davis passed thirteen cars to get into second. Becker won, Davis second, Tieman third, Glen Bargender fourth and Lester Kuehn fifth.

7100a.jpg (13972 bytes) A pair of new faces topped the Two-Man Cruiser action this evening as Tim and Greg Firkus scored top honors and a very popular victory.

The team of Tim and Greg Firkus won the 2-Man Cruiser race. Jason Blenker and John Kampert Jr. second, and Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl finished third.

This week’s Wal-Mart bicycle winner was Lacey Mancl from Hewitt.

This Saturday’s events are sponsored by Copps Food Centers, WDLB & WOSQ for Mid-Season Championship. Come out to see the driver’s race for more money and laps. Trophies will be awarded after the races. In addition to the Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, 1-Man and 2-Man Cruisers, the motorcycles will be returning. Gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m., and racing at 7:30.
