Though he's been running a limited schedule this season at Marshfield Mark Eswein (#71) is still tough as he recorded his third feature win of the season tonight.

August 26, 2000; Marshfield, WI - A warm, clear night was upon on us for Mid-State Truck Service’s events. Scott Field set fast time in his Ford Taurus in the Super Late Model division. Merle Weinfurter was quick timer in the CWSSA Super Stocks, Dave Keays in the Legends, and Doug Becker in the 1-Man Cruisers.

The Super Late Model feature began with a crash involving Pete Kempf and Rick Grunden, and took Brian Back out of the race. The second time the green dropped Wayne Breitenfeldt led. Dean LaPointe then took the lead on lap two, fighting off Jeff Weinfurter and Mark Mackesy. A spin on lap three sent Monte Gress into the pits for the remainder of the race. Judd Brandl’s car was also damaged during that incident and he was only able to complete one more lap before pulling off.

LaPointe was still leading, Weinfurter second and Mackesy third. Mark Eswein quickly moved through the field and was running second by lap 15. Gary Back followed Eswein through the pack and grabbed third on lap 16. LaPointe led with Eswein and Back challenging him for the lead. Lap 23 Ewein took the lead from LaPointe and lap 24 Back took second from LaPointe. Eswein won, Back second, LaPointe third, Mackesy fourth and Scott Field who consistently ran within the top five took fifth.

A new winner!  Alan Sankey (#3) had been fast all season but until tonight had been denied a feature win in Super Stock action.  Tonight things went his way holding off point leader Cale Laessig for the victory. 82600b.jpg (17471 bytes)

Dave Pagels led the first three laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Matt Raykowski led the next three, Johnny Bell one lap and then it was Raykowski again. Lap nine Bell took the lead away from Raykowski for good. Allan Sankey who started behind Bell chased him down and took the lead on lap 14. Points leader Cale Laessig passed Larry Schultz, running third, and then Bell, running second. Laessig couldn’t get past Sankey. Sankey won, Laessig second, Bell third, Schultz fourth and Kevin Peterson fifth.

The first two laps of the Legend feature was led by Greg Gress. Milt Kemp Jr. led the next three until the caution came out sending him and Jeff Way to the back of the pack. Gress resumed the lead. Russ Weiler was running second and passed Gress for the lead on lap eight. Chad Schnitzler took second from Gress only two laps later. Way moved through the field and passed Schnitzler on lap 13 and then took the lead from Weiler on lap 15. Way won, Schnitzler second, Weiler third, Curt Gnatzig fourth and Dave Keays fifth.

Rodney Feltz (#6) recently completed this car for 1-man Cruiser action and took it to victory this evening.   Feltz who was an important part of the team which won the 2-man Cruiser championship last season is always a threat to win in the 1-man division. 82600d.jpg (13813 bytes)

In the 1-Man feature, Dale Koplien led the first two laps. Rodney Feltz then took the lead and never looked back. Randy Bargender, Glen Bargender and Mark Virnig all raced behind Feltz looking for their chance to take the lead. They never got it. Feltz won, Virnig second, Bargender third, Doug Becker fourth and Duwayne Davis fifth.

The winners of the 2-Man Cruiser event were Paul Hasenohrl and Scott Strigel. Jesse Zophi and Rick Mason Jr. second, and Pat Dickman and Digger Harrison third.

Tonight’s Wal-Mart bike winner was Evan Guden from Pittsville.
