September 2, 2000; Marshfield, WI - The Coca-Cola, Miller Season Championship was threatened with dreary weather. We were unable to hold qualifying, so the drivers were lined-up by average time. Judd Brandl won the Super Late Model Points by two points over Mark Mackesy. Cale Laessig won the Super Stock Points, and the 1-Man Cruiser points end next Saturday.
Bob Kubisiak led the first three laps of the Super Late Model feature. Rick Grunden then passed him for the lead. Kubisiak ran behind Grunden for a few laps until Mark Mackesy grabbed second. Lap 13 Mackesys drive shaft blew out taking him out of the race. When the race resumed Grunden led, Jeff Weinfurter second, Scott Field third. Mark Eswein and Rory Melbinger passed Kubisiak for fourth and fifth respectively. Lap 17 Eswein got by Field and Weinfurter for second. Lap 20 Eswein took the lead. Lap 21 Gary Back passed Melbinger to break into the top five. Eswein won, Field second, Back third, Grunden fourth, and Melbinger fifth.
The early lead was led by Matt Raykowski in the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Larry Schultz took the lead on lap three. Raykowski followed for two laps, then Kevin Peterson held second. The next two laps Shawn Stelzer followed Schultz. Lap eight Merle Weinfurter passed Stelzer for second and lap nine he took the lead from Schultz. Cale Laessig moved into second on lap ten from his 12th place start. Jim Cormack who started behind Laessig was in third by lap 16. Weinfurter won, Cormack passed Laessig on the checkered flag lap for second, Laessig took third, Stelzer fourth and Peterson fifth.
Pat Bean of Wisconsin Rapids led the motorcycle final until lap 6 when Eric Mischler of Beaver Dam took over the point and cruised to victory on his Mischler HD of Beaver Dam Woods Rotax 600. Steve Kasten of Schofield edged out Cliff Eckes Jr. of Marshfield for 3rd place. September 23rd is the next night that the cycles return to Marshfield Super Speedway. Gary Schallock moved up behind him on lap six, but lost the second spot to Duwayne Davis on lap nine. Davis couldnt pass Becker. Becker won, Davis second, Schallock third, Koplien fourth and Randy Bargender fifth.
The winners of the 2-Man Cruiser event were Jason Kay and Corey Steczynski. Tim and Greg Firkus finished second, and John Dupee and John Brugh third. The winner of the Wal-Mart Bicycle Giveaway was Brandon Jeralds from St. Charles, IL. Contending divisions are the Super Late Models, Super Stocks, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers.
