Mackesy tops Late Model action at Marshfield!

May 6, 2000; Marshfield, WI: -  One of the nicest days of the year so far, was perfect for racing on Fleming Corporation night. Jeff Weinfurter set fast time in the Super Late Models, Cale Laessig in the CWSSA Super Stocks, Scott Brandt in the Legends, and Duwayne Davis in the 1-Man Cruisers.

5600e.jpg (21027 bytes) Mark Mackesy (#12) has the hot setup tonight as he came from mid-pack to take over the lead of the Super Late Model feature.  Mackesy then held off Jeremy Lepak for the victory.

Joe Krzykowski grabbed the early lead for the first four laps of the Super Late Model feature. While Krzykowski led the race, Wayne Breitenfeldt and Judd Brandl battled back and forth. Lap five saw Breitenfeldt with the lead; lap six was Late Model rookie Brandl. Meanwhile Jeremy Lepak worked his way through the field and into second, challenging Brandl for the lead. Mark Mackesy was also moving up and running third. A caution on lap 13 help Mackesy get ahead of Lepak off the restart. Lap 16 Mackesy took the lead from Brandl. Lap 20 Lepak passed Brandl for second. Mackesy won, Lepak second, Brandl third, Breitenfeldt fourth, and Krzykowski fifth.

Super Run!  Scott Hamel (#78) has a great start going to his 2000 season at Marshfield Super Speedway in the Super Stock division.  Hamel took an early lead in the feature race and held it to the ckeckered flag for the win. 5600b.jpg (16205 bytes)

Dave Pagels led the first half of the Super Stock feature. Wes Coon ran in second for two laps until Scott Hamel grabbed it. Hamel then set his sites on Pagels. Lap ten Hamel took the lead from Pagels, with Merle Weinfurter racing third. Coon reclaimed third from Weinfurter, and Larry Schultz shot up into second. Johnny Bell passed Coon for third on lap 17, but Bell lost third to Cale Laessig on the white flag lap. Hamel claiming his first feature win, Schultz second, Laessig third, Bell fourth, and Weinfurter fifth.

5600c.jpg (15828 bytes) A well earned win!  Milt Kemp Sr. (#18) waited until the final lap of the Legend Car feature to take the lead and score a thrilling victory.

The first appearance by the Legends in the 2000 season saw Dave Keays lead laps one and two. Jon Lewerer led laps three and four, then Keays led lap five, but lap six Lewerer took it back. Lap ten the lead changed again with Dean Fisher now leading. Fisher continued to lead the race until the white flag lap when Milt Kemp Jr., who started tenth took the lead. Scott Brandt also moved up and passed Fisher, and took second. Kemp won, Brandt second, Russ Weiler third, Fisher fourth, and Keays fifth.

5600d.jpg (14687 bytes) One half the team is still a winner!   Rodney Feltz (#6) who competed in the 2-man Cruiser class last season converted his car to a 1-man model and still made his way to the winners circle taking the feature event.

Darrell Paschel led the first three laps of the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Rob Detwiler led lap four, until Rodney Feltz took the lead. Lap six Randy Bargander passed Detwiler for second, Doug Becker running third. Duwayne Davis and Glen Bargander moved up as well, into fourth and fifth. Feltz won, R. Bargander second, Becker third, Davis fourth, and G. Bargander fifth.

John Kampert Jr., and Chad Retzke (#01) were the best of the 2-man Cruisers that appeared this evening, as they bested nearly two dozen other cars in this daredevil event. 5600a.jpg (13522 bytes)

In the 2-Man Cruiser race, John Kampert Jr. and Chat Retzke won, Kevin Clark and Dave Swenson second, and Larry Brage and Don Nigh third.

Next week is the McLeod USA Telephone Book MARS Late Model Invitational. Along with the 100-lap MARS feature, with be Super Stocks, 1-Man Cruisers, and 2-Man Cruisers. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m., racing begins at 7:30.
