1st Annual "Eve of Destruction" a big hit at Marshfield!

September 30, 2000; Marshfield, WI - The first eve of destruction was held at Marshfield Super Speedway and the overall winner was Scott Rueth of Marshfield winning the 5-½ foot trophy donated by Burt Awards. The audience awarded him the trophy after a vote for his rollover during the 1-Man Cruiser race and his participation in other events.

The night began with the 1-Man cruiser race heat with the winner being Dale Koplien. In the 2-Man Cruiser heat Guy Dupee& John Brugh grabbed the top spot. The feature winner in the 1-Man was Rodney Feltz and the 2-Man feature winners were Jason Kay & Cory Steczyinski.

The next event was a motorcycle burn out done with a Boss Hoss 350/V-8 Chevy by Fran Esser of Marshfield.

Then the next event was a car/truck burn out with the winner being Randy Hills from Wausau in his ’65 Chevy II sponsored by Hills Auto.

Forty-four cars competed in the next event that was the tire race. They each had a tire attached to the rear of their cars and the last car left with the tire on was the winner. The emerging winner was Brian Stroik of Stevens Point in an ’85 Cutlass sponsored by D & D Auto.

The following event was a tug of war between two front wheel drive cars with a chain around the rear axle of each car to see whose axle would break first.

The next event was a football game where the football was a compact car and the object was to push the car into the other teams end zone. It was compact cars against full size cars and the compact cars put up a good fight but the full size cars won.

The forward and backward heat races were next. The drivers completed one lap in forward, then got to the start/finish line and put the cars in reverse and made one lap in reverse to cross the finish line backwards, finishing the heat. The heat winners advanced to the feature. Out of those five cars the winner was Jamie Teatz of Marshfield in a Mercury Lynx sponsored by Reflections, J&J Auto and PPG.

After the trailer race was stopped twice due to massive pile-ups and roll-overs, the winner was Dave Harvath from Stevens Point in his Chevy truck.

The final event of the night was the jet car burn of two cars. The "Hot Rod "T" Firetruck operated by Daren Phillips of Elkhart Lake, IN performed the burn. The truck has 8,500 lbs of thrust, idles at 4,000 RPM and at 100% the engine rotates at 12,900 RPM. The lights were shut off and the infield was lit up by the jet, with its ear piercing, ground shaking, flame-throwing spectacle
