May 20, 2000; Marshfield, WI: - Rory Melbinger of Marshfield broke the track record in the CARQUEST Super Late Models by turning a 17.733 seconds tonight on the Webers Farm Milk Store night. Mike Brahmstedt of Wisconsin Rapids made a clean sweep in the CARQUEST Super Late Models by winning the dash, heat and feature events. Cale Laessig of Marshfield set fast time & won the CARQUEST Super Stock feature event. Clayton Kruse of Burlington, a newcomer to the speedway finished in the top spot in the Legends feature event. We will be hosting a NASCAR Raffle on Saturday, May 27th - there are over 80 prizes to be given away. All proceeds will go to the building of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Tickets will be on sale only the night of May 27th and you must be present to win. Ticket prices are: $1.00 per ticket, $4.00 for 5 tickets or $7.00 for 10 tickets.
In the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature, Pete Kempf started on the pole, but by the first scored lap Mike Brahmstedt passed him for the lead, Jeff Weinfurter for second, and Mark Mackesy for third, placing Kempf in fourth. On lap two, Rick Grunden and Allen Check raced by Kempf for fourth and fifth. The next lap Grunden lost control in turns one and two, bringing out the caution flag. Rory Melbinger then took the fifth place spot. Lap ten Melbinger got by Check for fourth. Lap 15 the caution came out again, this time for Weinfurter, whose throttle stuck, forcing his spin out in turn three. Melbinger then moved into third, Check fourth, and Judd Brandl broke into the top five for fifth. As the pack came around for the last lap, Check dove to the inside of Melbinger, coming into turn three, to steal third. Brahmstedt won, Mackesy second, Check third, Melbinger fourth, and Brandl fifth.
Brian Stroik led the first three laps of the CWSSA CARQUEST Super Stocks. The next two laps were Wes Coons. Then Allan Sankey took the lead for the next six laps. Coon followed in second, while Cale Laessig made his way through the field into third. Lap 11, Matt Raykowski spun bringing out the first caution. On the restart Laessig passed both Coon and Sankey for the lead. Lap 18 Johnny Bell grabbed second. Laessig won, Bell second, Coon third, Dave Pagels fourth and Sankey fifth.
The Legend feature started smooth, but on lap two, a spin involving Tom Schnitzler and Pat Hinner, brought out the caution. The caution also sent Adam Allpress and Gary Lamonte to the pits. Clayton Kruse was leading, Dean Fisher second and Curt Gnatzig third. Lap four Russ Weiler passed Fisher, and lap five he passed Gnatzig. On lap six Fisher moved back into third. Fisher and Weiler battle back and forth for second. A spin on lap 11 sent Fisher to the pits, and Scott Brandt to the rear of the pack. Jon Lewerer moved into second on the restart, and Weiler back into third. Kruse won, Lewerer second, Weiler third, Milt Kemp fourth and Brandt fifth.
In the 1-Man Cruiser feature, Scott Reth led the first lap. Then Robert Detwiler took the lead. On lap six Randy Bargander shot into the lead. Gary Schallock moved through the field from his ninth place start into third, and Duwayne Davis from 12th into fourth, Darrell Paschel running fifth. All five of them held their positions for the few remaining laps for the checkered.
The team of John Kampert Jr. and Jason Blenker won the 2-Man Cruiser event. Paul Hasenhorl and Scott Strigel second, and Jason Kay and Corey Steczywski for third. Divisions contending will be the CARQUEST Super Late Models, CWSSA CARQUEST Super Stocks, 1-Man Cruisers, CARQUEST 2-Man Cruisers, and the Motorcycles will be returning.
