Seventeen two wheeled daredevils put on a spark throwing wheel-smoking show tonight. Shawanos Lee Johnson won the first heat and Wausaus Steve Kasten the second heat race to set up a showdown for the main event. With eleven 250 & 500 riders on the front row and 6 600 riders on the back row the 10 lap feature was run flat out start to finish, no cautions or accidents, just good close racing. Merrills Brad Rotheau grabbed the lead on his 250 for the first four laps, as the 600 riders charged through the pack. Johnson led Kasten for those early laps only to have Kasten blast his SK Service 600 Yamaha past on the outside of turn 3 as they encountered slower traffic. From then on Kasten controlled the show, with Johnson trailing but never close enough to try passing. Young Rotheau held on for third over another newcomer Eric Mischler of Beaver Dam. Local riders Cliff Eckes of Marshfield finished 6th, Scott Winkler of Granton 8th and Woody Eckes of Spencer came in 10th. The next cycle race date on July 8th promises to be even a better show with even more riders showing up to compete on this super fast and safe ½ mile blacktop track.
