June 10, 2000; Marshfield, WI - The Mid-American Super Trucks were here to join us for Nelson-Jameson and Prince Corporation night. For a short time Mother Nature intervened with some rain, interrupting qualifying, but when the action resumed it proved to be an exciting night. Super Truck driver Danny Heinritz became the new track record holder for his division, and rookie Super Late Model driver Judd Brandl won his first checkered flag here at the Big 1/2 Mile, by winning his heat.
In the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature, Mark Mackesy grabbed the lead from rookie pole sitter Rick Grunden. Lap two, Jeff Weinfurter also got ahead of Grunden for second. A spin involving Pete Kempf brought out the caution on lap five. On the re-start, the caution was out again, only this time for Grunden and Dean LaPointe. When the green was dropped again, Mackesy held the lead, Weinfurter second and Rory Melbinger into third. Melbinger challenged Weinfurter for second for five laps before claiming the position. Only five short laps later, Weinfurter got by Melbinger. As the two of them battled it out for second, they were also trying to get by Mackesy for the lead. Mackesy was able to hold them off, Weinfurter second, Melbinger third, Judd Brandl fourth and Mike Brahmstedt fifth.
Danny Heinritz of Green Bay, WI took advantage of a late race incident to win his third feature of the season in the McLeodUSA Mid-Am Super Truck Series Saturday night at the Marshfield Super Speedway. With four laps remaining Heinritz trailed leader Mark Anderson of Minnetonka, MN, by ten trucks lengths. Anderson was attempting to lap Dave Cheney going into the first turn when the rear of Andersons Chevrolet was clipped by the front of Cheneys Ford. Andersons race leader super truck spun off the track into a sand pile barrier, bringing out a caution flag. Anderson pitted to repair some damage to the rear of his super truck and Heinritz inherited the lead and won the 30-lap main event by four lengths over two-time State Park Speedway late model champion Donnie Woller of Merrill, WI in his first appearance in the McLeodUSA Series. Third went to Vincent Wilkinson of Sandwich, Il, also in a brand new machine and in his first ride of the year. Jerry Seibel of Campbellsport, WI finished in ford ahead of Ryan Mathews of Lake Geneva, WI and Michael Schmitz of Northfield, MN. Lee Meyerdirk of Rogers, MN paced the 17-truck field for the first four laps before Anderson shot past on the outside. Heinritz moved into second, but Anderson was pulling away as speedway officials clocked Anderson running laps 2/10 of a second quicker than Heinritz. But, luck was not riding with Anderson and the turn one tangle ended his hopes of his first ever McLeodUSA Super Truck win. Five super truckers broke the one-lap qualifying record for the half-mile. Heinritz was the quickest at 19.049 followed by Art Christoffersen at 19.248, Bill Prietzel at 19.251, Jerry Seibel at 19.260 and Woller at 19.317. The next event for the McLeodUSA Super Trucks is Friday, June 16 at the Excalibur Speedway in Tomah, WI.
Larry Schultz led the first five laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature, until 1999s champion Cale Laessig took over. Schultzs continued to run in second, with Scott Hamel and Merle Weinfurter close behind. Hamel and Weinfurter battled back and forth, until Weinfurter passed him for third. Two laps later, Allan Sankey got by Hamel for fourth. With only four laps left in the race, Weinfurter challenged Schultz and won by grabbing second. Laessig won, Weinfurter second, Sankey third, Schultz fourth and Brian Stroik fifth.
In the 1-Man Cruiser feature, Darrell Paschel led the first half; Gary Schallock led the second half. Robert Hainzlsperger raced second for several laps before Schallock passed him.
