June 17, 2000; Marshfield, WI - It was a great night for racing on Thomas Electric night. Mark Mackesy of Wausau took home the feature win in the CARQUEST Super Late Model event after starting 13th. Cale Laessig of Marshfield finished in the top spot for his third feature win this season in the CARQUEST Super Stock feature. Dean Fisher of Wisconsin Rapids won his first feature this year in the Legends division. Doug Becker of Granton also received his third feature win for this season in the 1-Man Cruiser division.
Tim Jackson led the first two laps of the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature. Rick Grunden led the next seven laps. Lap six Jackson and Monte Gress spun off of turn three. On the re-start Grunden was still in his seven-lap lead. Mike Brahmstedt was behind Grunden before the caution but Weinfurter grabbed second for a lap. Brahmstedt reclaimed it and then took the lead on lap ten. Mark Eswein who came from 12th spot was right behind Brahmstedt. On lap 11 Grunden and Mark Kraus were involved in a spin in turns three and four, sending both to the back of the pack. Lap 15 Eswein took the lead from Brahmstedt with Weinfurter right behind in second. On lap 22 the leaders spun out sending both Eswein and Weinfurter to the rear. Mark Mackesy then inherited the lead, finishing the last three laps in first to win. Judd Brandl moved up to second, Kraus made it all the way from the back into third. Dean LaPointe followed Brandl to the front to finish fourth and Todd Hughes who started last made it up to fifth.
The CARQUEST Super Stocks had an action packed race. After only one lap in the books, Scott Hamel spun out in turn one bringing out the first caution. Carl Saylor was leading and led until lap five when Allan Sankey took over the lead. Lap eight Saylor pulled in the pits, Johnny Bell then got second spot with Shawn Stelzer next. The caution came out again on lap nine. On the re-start Merle Weinfurter got by Stelzer for third. Bell got loose on the backstretch and lost several spots, placing Weinfurter second and Stelzer third. Cale Laessig was moving through the field and on lap 14 passed Stelzer for third. Weinfurter passed Sankey for the lead on lap 17 and then the two spun out. Laessig then got the lead, Stelzer second, Bell third, Stroik fourth and Sankey finished fifth.
Scott Hansen led lap one of the Legend feature. Galen Maturnach led lap two and then Todd Hansen led the next five laps. As the cars raced around the ½ mile four wide, Dean Fisher made his way into the lead on lap eight. Hansen running second and Milt Kemp third. Lap ten Kemp passed Hansen for second. Pat Hinner moved through the field and got past Hansen on the next lap for third and then passed Kemp for second. That was short lived as Kemp got ahead of Hinner for the next two laps, but that didnt last long either as Hinner had second for the next three laps. Kemp then got by Hinner for the last time and the last three laps. Fisher won, Kemp second, Hinner third, Dave Keays fourth and Hansen fifth.
In the 1-Man Cruiser feature, Darrell Paschel led laps one and two; Glen Bargender led laps three, four and five. Then Doug Becker took the lead for good. Fast timer Duwayne Davis made from his 12th place start to second, but ran out of laps to catch Becker. Becker won, Davis second, Bargender third, Rob Detwiler fourth and Paschel fifth. In the 2-Man Cruiser division the team of Paul Hasenhorl & Scott Strigel won the event. Finishing second and third respectively were: Dave Glodowski & Dan Glodowski, Tim Firkus & Greg Firkus. Tuesday, June 20th we will be hosting the MACCI Business After 5 and the Bill Sherman Memorial with full racing action. Come out to see the Super Late Models race for $1000.00 to win. Next Saturday, June 24th will be sponsored by Pollnows Journeys End with stock car rides for the kids. Both nights, qualifying at 6 p.m., racing at 7:30.
