June 21, 2000; Marshfield, WI - The Bill Sherman Memorial and the MACCI Business After 5 was pushed to Wednesday night due to weather. Wednesday night was cast with a few sprinkles, but the show was completed. Mark Eswein of Wisconsin Rapids set a new track record in the Super Late Model division until Gary Back of Vesper came out with an even faster time of 17.658. Cale Laessig of Marshfield set fast time in the CWSSA Super Stocks and Duwayne Davis turned the fast lap in the 1-Man Cruisers again. In the Super Late Model feature, the action started on the first lap. As the cars came across the start/finish line, Rory Melbinger was loose, causing many cars to slow up. Due to all the braking, Scott Field and Mark Eswein got into a wreck bringing out the first caution and ending their participation in the feature. The caution was out again on lap four when Jeff Weinfurter and Joe Krzykowski spun on the backstretch. Before another lap was completed, the leader Pete Kempf and Dean LaPointe brought out the caution again. Now leading was Brian Back, with Rory Melbinger second and Mike Brahmstedt third. On lap seven, Mark Kraus passed Brahmstedt for the third spot. Lap 11 the caution came out again this time for Jeff Weinfurter. Once again before another lap was completed leader Back got loose and Melbinger rolled his car and landed on his roof. Fortunately no one was hurt. Mark Kraus now assumed the lead, Brahmstedt second and Judd Brandl third. Lap 18 Brandl got by Brahmstedt for second and then Wayne Breitenfeldt passed him for third. Gary Back made his way to the front and passed Breitenfeldt for third. Kraus took home the checkered and the $1,000.00, Brandl second, Gary Back third, Breitenfeldt fourth and Krzykowski fifth. The CWSSA Super Stocks were action packed as well. Larry Schultz led the first eight laps with Shawn Stelzer running second. Cale Laessig was quickly moving through the field and grabbed second and then the lead on lap nine. Stelzer then passed Schultz for second. A spin involving Schultz, Allan Sankey and Johnny Bell on lap 13 sent Sankey and Bell to the pits. Another spin before the race re-started sent Bernie Fritz Jr., Brian Stroik and Schultz into the wall. Schultzs car landed on his roof. With only seven laps to go, Laessig held on for the win, Stelzer second, Gary Wosick third, Bell made it back out to finish fourth and Merle Weinfurter fifth. Luckily no one in the 1-Man Cruisers put their car on its roof. Dale Koplien led the first lap, and then it was Jeff Horn. Koplien got it back for lap three and then it was Horn again. Mark Virnig passed Koplien for second. Duwayne Davis moving through the field grabbed third on lap six and then on lap ten took the lead. Doug Becker who started in the last row moved up for second. Davis won, Becker second, Virnig third, Koplien fourth and Keith Bargender fifth. The team of Paul Hasenhorl and Scott Strigel won, Tim and Greg Firkus second, and John Kampert Jr. and Peter Blenker third.
