Mackesy takes another Super Late Model win at Marshfield!

June 24, 2000; Marshfield, WI - It was a slightly overcast night which turned out to be a great racing night on Pollnow’s Journeys End & the Marshfield Dental Clinic Night. Mark Mackesy grabbed his fourth feature win in the CARQUEST Super Late Model division. Merle Weinfurter who started 6th took the checkered in the CARQUEST Super Stock feature event. Les Kuehn got his first feature win in the 1-Man Cruiser division.

62400b.jpg (18097 bytes) Merle Weinfurter (#24) scored his first Super Stock victory of the season at Marshfield Super Speedway.  The 1997 Super Stock champion has had some solid runs of late and is in the tick of the points chase.

In the CARQUEST Super Stock feature Wes Coon held the led for the first eight laps until Merle Weinfurter overtook him. Johnny Bell who started sixth was in second place by lap 11, with Shawn Stelzer close behind. On lap 12 Stelzer took second place from Bell, fourth was being held by Cale Laessig and in fifth spot was Coon. On lap 16, Coon lost the pace and Alan Sankey took over fifth spot. On lap 17 Laessig passed Bell for third. In the end it was Weinfurter, Stelzer, Laessig, Bell and Sankey.

Mark Mackesy (#12) has been the man to beat of late at Marshfield Super Speedway.  The veteran racer chalked up his fourth Super Late Model victory of the 2000 season on the half-mile paved oval. Mackesy is looking to score his first career championship this season. 62400d.jpg (17728 bytes)

The CARQUEST Super Late Model feature saw Mark Mackesy leading in lap 1 and never looking back. By lap 5 second through fifth were: Dean LaPointe, Kurt Waush, Mike Brahmstedt and Jeff Weinfurter. The following lap Brahmstedt took over third, Weinfurter moved into fourth and Waush into fifth. On lap 8, Breitenfeldt gained fifth spot. Lap 10 Weinfurter overtook Brahmstedt for third and coming up hard was Judd Brandl. By lap 11 Brandl took fifth away from Breitenfeldt, while the rest of the field shuffled for positions. On lap 17 another caution was brought out as a result of a spin. LaPointe who was in second had transmission problems and was unable to rejoin the race. On the restart Brandl took second place with Weinfurter coming up third, Waush in fourth and Breitenfeldt in fifth. On lap 23, Check overtook Breitenfeldt for fifth. With the top five remaining Mackesy, Brandl, Weinfurter, Waush and Check.

62400c.jpg (12344 bytes) A new face in victory lane!  Les Kuehn (#K15) scored his first career victory at Marshfield speedway when he grabbed the checkered flag in the 1-Man Cruiser division.

The 1-Man Cruiser feature saw Les Kuehn take the lead on lap five and never looked back for his first feature win. Glen Bargender followed in second until lap 11 when Duwayne Davis passed him. Mark Virnig and Doug Becker held fourth and fifth spots. When the checkered flag dropped it was Kuehn, Davis, Becker in third, Bargender fourth and Virnig fifth.

A first time appearance at the Marshfield Super Speedway for the Cenex Mini Stocks showed exciting action. The sanctioned class winners at the top were: Paul Berg, Mike Peterson, Trevor Dzwonkowski, Brad Dupee and Chris Boykins.

Out front on a foggy night!  The it was not considered a complete race Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl were out front of the 2-man Cruiser event when the fog rolled in.  The race was stopped at four laps, while they were in the lead. 62400a.jpg (10570 bytes)

The CARQUEST 2-Man Cruiser feature was called due to fog in the fourth lap of the event. Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl were in the lead at the time but the race was considered incomplete. The 2-Mans will be running only one feature next week due to time allowances. The winner of the Wal-Mart bike giveaway was Melissa Basinski of Stevens Point.

WDEZ, V & H Inc, CARQUEST, The Home Front and Monroe Truck will sponsor next week’s events. Grandstand admission is just $3.00. Divisions racing include Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks and 1 & 2 Man Cruisers. The Legends will also be back. Gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m., and racing at 7:30.
