June 23, 2001; Marshfield, WI: - Finally a nice day with no rain in the forecast. Fast timers were Rory Melbinger, Cale Laessig, Gary LaMonte, and Josh Elmhorst, in the Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Legends and 1-Man Cruisers respectively.
After only one lap was completed in the Super Late Model feature, leader Jeff Weinfurter came out of turn four and spun into the wall, due to a mechanical problem with his car. Weinfurter was unable to return and Jim Sauter Jr. then inherited the lead. Mark Mackesy, Greg Back, Jay VanDerGeest and Rory Melbinger rounding out the top five. The caution came out on lap 14 for a spin in the backstretch. When the race resumed Melbinger had passed both VanDerGeest and Back, placing him third. Sauter won, Mackesy second, Melbinger third, Back fourth and VanDerGeest fifth. Duwayne Davis led the first six laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Tim Plowman led the next five and then Shawn Stelzer took over. Cale Laessig worked his way to the front but was unable to take away the lead from Stelzer. Stelzer won, Laessig second, Plowman third, Cary Lyons fourth and Davis fifth. The Legends feature saw Dan McGiveron lead the first four laps. After a caution on lap four, Gary LaMonte grabbed the lead and held on for the win. LaMonte won, Josh Schoenick second, Curt Gnatzig third, Russ Weiler fourth and Adam Bentz. Matt Nelles led the first half of the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Robert Detwiler took the lead on lap eight, Nelles fell to second and Travis Zvolena third. Zvolena won, Nelles second, Detwiler third, Don Tieman fourth and Glen Bargender fifth. The winners of the 2-Man Cruiser race were Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl. Second place went to Mike Dodson and Luke Hall, third was Jon Dupee Jr. and John Brugh. Next Saturday's event is Mid-Season Championship sponsored by Copps Food Centers, WDLB & WOSQ. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, 4-Cylinders, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers. |
