Eswein captures Bill Sherman Memorial!

July 7, 2001; Marshfield, WI: - It was warm and muggy for the Bill Sherman Memorial Bucks Night sponsored by V&H, WDEZ 101.9/FM, CARQUEST, Monroe Truck Equip., Fire-Up Fireworks, Subway and The Home Front. Gary Back was best in time in the Super Late Models. Andy Simonis was quick timer in the CWSSA Super Stocks and almost won the feature. Josh Schoenick still driving a borrowed Legend car set fast time and won the feature. For the first time this year Fran Esser was the fast timer in the 1-Man Cruisers.

Mike Dodson and Luke Hall (#55) were all smiles after winning the 2-Man Cruiser feature.

The 30 lap Super Late Model feature began with Mark Mackesy grabbing the lead from his outside pole start. Pole sitter Ben Pettis fell to second and Jeff Weinfurter third.

Jim Sauter Jr. passed Wayne Mackesy for fifth and then Dean LaPointe for fourth. Meanwhile Mark Eswein was quickly moving through the field and lap 13 he passed LaPointe for fifth. The next lap Eswein passed Pettis and a few laps later Sauter, and then Weinfurter. Eswein then set his sites on Mackesy for the lead. Lap 25 Eswein took over the lead for the win. Mackesy finished second, Sauter third, Weinfurter fourth and LaPointe fifth.

The CWSSA Super Stock feature was led by Tim Plowman for the first three laps. Jared Back led the next three. Lap six the caution came out for a spin in turns one and two. Allan Sankey then grabbed the lead. Larry Schultz and Andy Simonis quickly drove the front of the field. Simonis worked his way up to Sankey, tried the pass him on the outside for the checkered. Sankey was able to hang on for the win by a bumper. Simonis took home second, Schultz third, Matt Wisz fourth and Matt Raykowski fifth.

The first two laps of the Legend feature were led by Dan McGiveron. The following 12 laps were led by Russ Weiler. Lap 15, fast timer Josh Schoenick was able to pass and hold off Weiler for the lead. Schoenick won, Weiler second, Adam Allpress third, Greg Gress fourth and Eric Lokemoen fifth.

In 1-Man Cruiser feature Matt Nelles led the first three laps. Rob Detwiler then took lead and held on up until the checkered when Fran Esser passed him. Esser won, Detwiler second, Travis Zvolen third, Don Tieman fourth and Josh Elmhorst fifth.

The winners of the 2-Man Cruiser race were Mike Dodson and Luke Hall. Dewey Meyer and Rick Mason Sr second, and Dave Hasenhorl and Shad Bauer third.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Rachel Ganski of Shantytown.

Next Saturday's event is sponsored by Kev's Auto Repair and Scotties Pizza & Chicken Night. We will also be having Mechanics races. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, Motorcycles, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers.
