Melbinger and Sauter Jr., split Marhsfield Super Late Model victories!

May 12, 2001; Marshfield, WI: -  The night started with the features from last week. The CWSSA Super Stock feature ran first and Merle Weinfurter took home the win. Rory Melbinger won the Super Late Model feature and Don Tieman Jr. won the 1-Man feature.

Chad Schniztler (#11) scored his first career Legends feature victory.

Eugene Gregorich was the first leader of the Super Late Model feature. Mark Mackesy and Ben Pettis running second and third. Jay VanDerGeest and Jim Sauter Jr. moved up to second and third on lap nine. Sauter and Melbinger passed VanDerGeest for second and third. Sauter then passed Gregorich for the lead on lap 20. Two laps later Melbinger passed Gregorich for second. Sauter won, Melbinger second, Gregorich third, Jeff Weinfurter fourth and VanDerGeest fifth.

The first five laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature were led by Jared Back. Brian Stroik, Merle Weinfurter, Steve Borski, and Allan Sankey in the rounding out the top five respectively. Sankey moved into the lead for lap six, while Shawn Stelzer was making his way to the front. Stelzer was running second by lap seven and Cale Laessig was in third on lap eight. Laessig passed Stelzer for second on lap 15. Sankey won, Laessig second, Stelzer third, Cary Lyons fourth and Jared Back fifth.

Greg Gress led the first three laps of the Legend feature. Tom Schnitzler and Gary Lamonte battled for the lead for a few laps. Schnitzler came out the victor, Gress running second and Dean Fisher third. Fisher and Chad Schnitzler moved into second and third on lap eight. Russ Weiler grabbed third on lap 14. Chad Schnitzler and Weiler passed Tom Schnitzler for first and second. Tom Schnitzler regained second from Weiler on lap 17. Chad Schnitzler won, Tom Schnitzler second, Weiler third, Gress fourth and Josh Schoenick fifth.

The 1-Man feature was won by Rodney Feltz, Travis Zvolena who started in last spot finished second, Glen Bargender third, Jason Blenker fourth and Rob Detwiler fifth.

 

The 2-Man race was won by the team of Jon Dupee Jr. and John Brugh. Jason Kay and Cory Steczyinski second, and Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl third.

Next week's events are sponsored by Fleming Corporation. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Any Boy or Girl Scout in uniform gets in for FREE. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, Motorcycles, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers.
