May 19, 2001; Marshfield, WI: - The first warm night of the season changed the track conditions for the drivers. Rory Melbinger adapted well in the Super Late Models with almost a clean sweep except for qualifying when Jim Sauter Jr. had quick time. Defending track champion Cale Laessig ripped off fast time in the CWSSA Super Stocks and Travis Zvolena set fast time in the 1-Man Cruiser division.
Mark Mackesy grabbed the early lead in the Super Late Model feature. Ben Pettis defended his second place spot until laps six when Rory Melbinger passed him. Two laps later Melbinger took over the lead, Mackesy behind him and Pettis third. Gary Back moved up into the third spot for lap ten and then second for lap 13. Fast timer Jim Sauter Jr. passed Mackesy for third on lap 20. Melbinger won, Back second, Sauter Jr. third, Mackesy fourth and Jeff Weinfurter fifth. The first three laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature were led by Tim Hintz. Shawn Stelzer battled with him to take the lead on lap four. Cale Laessig was close behind in second and Allan Sankey moved into third on lap five. Sankey proceeded to pass Laessig and Stelzer for the lead on lap eight. Keith Bohmsach moved up quickly was in third by lap 15. Sankey won, Laessig second, Bohmsach third, Stelzer fourth and Hintz fifth. 8 cyclists slid there way around tonight, throwing a shower of sparks from their steel skid shoes in each corner. Heat winner Steve Kasten nosed out Cliff Eckes, Brad Severs and Woody Eckes on the last corner while Pat Bean from Wisconsin Rapids sought medical attention from a nasty crash coming out of turn four. He returned for the main event on a different cycle and sped away from everyone for 8 laps of the 10 lap event. Steve Kasten chased the whole field down from his back row starting position to claim a narrow victory over Bean and Cliff Eckes. RESULTS: 1.Steve Kasten 2. Pat Bean 3. Cliff Eckes 4. Lee Johnson 5.Woody Eckes 6.Zeb Badiduda 7. Brad Servers 8. Chris Daniels The 1-Man Cruiser feature was led by Glen Bargender first and the Rodney Feltz. Don Tieman Jr. and Travis Zvolena challenged Feltz but with no avail. Feltz won, Tieman second, Zvolena third, Wayne Meyer fourth and Bargender fifth. The 2-Man Cruiser race was won by the team of Jon Dupee Jr. and John Brugh. Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl took home second, and Dave Hasenohrl and Carl Stoflet third. Next week's events are sponsored by WOFM & WIZD Bucks Night. All Admission is $3.00. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, Legends, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers. Next week finalizes the TJ's Auto & 8th Street Auto $1500.00 drivers bonus. |
