Weinfurter rolls to second in a row in Marshfield Super Late action!

June 2, 2001; Marshfield, WI: - On a very cool evening, Jeff Weinfurter won his second straight feature and also set fast time tonight in the Super Late Models. Allan Sankey set fast time in the CWSSA Super Stocks but was unable to win a third straight feature. Trevor Dzwonkowski was quick timer in the 4-Cylinders, and Travis Zvolena was fast in the 1-Man Cruisers.

Jason Kay and Cory Steczynski (#00) teamed up to top the 2-Man Cruiser race at Marshfield Super Speedway.

The Super Late Model feature had many cautions. Greg Back brought out the first before we got a lap in. Wayne Mackesy brought out the second after lap one was completed. Brian Back assumed the lead for lap two.

Then the caution flew again for Kevin Peterson and Mark Mackesy. Brian Back led lap three, Jeff Weinfurter second and Dean LaPointe third. Weinfurter took the lead from Back for the next lap and LaPointe passed Back for second two laps later. Jay VanDerGeest grabbed third, Back fell to fourth and Chad Holm fifth.

The yellow came out for Holm on lap seven, and Mark Mackesy moved into the fifth spot. The next lap Mackesy was in fourth and Peterson fifth. Mackesy pulled off on lap nine, Peterson moved up to fourth and Holm running fifth. The last caution flew for Peterson on lap 20. Weinfurter held on for his second straight win, LaPointe second, VanDerGeest third, Holm fourth and Brian Back fifth.

Brian Ganski led the first three laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature. Larry Schultz led laps four and five. Cale Laessig then took the lead. Schultz fell to second, Merle Weinfurter third, Ganski fourth and Andy Simonis fifth. Lap eight Shawn Stelzer broke into the top five and then moved to fourth the next lap.

The caution came out on lap 14 for Merle Weinfurter when something broke on his car. Laessig continued to lead, Schultz second, Stelzer third, Allan Sankey fourth and Tim Hintz fifth. Stelzer passed Schultz for second, and then Sankey passed Schultz for third. Laessig won, Stelzer second, Sankey third, Schultz fourth and Hintz fifth.

The 4-Cylinder feature saw Frank Wilhelm lead the first two laps. Trevor Dzwonkowski then took the lead. Steve Hauser ran second and Wilhelm third. Bob Gereau moved from fourth to third and then to second. Johnny Bell quickly moved through the field and was into second by lap eight. The top finishers were Dzwonkowski, Bell, Gereau and Froelich.

Rob Detwiler took the lead in the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Shawn Carpenter second, Don Tieman Jr. third, Greg Firkus fourth and Glen Bargender fifth. Bargender moved up to second, Josh Elmhorst third and Firkus fourth. Tieman passed Carpenter for fifth on lap four. Lap ten Travis Zvolena passed Tieman for fifth, and then Firkus for fourth. Detwiler won, Bargender second, Elmhorst third, Zvolena fourth and Tieman fifth.

The 2-Man Cruiser race was won by the team of Jason Kay and Cory Steczynski. Jeff Gotter and Larry Scholl took second, and Jon Dupee Jr. and John Brugh third.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Austin Wolf.

Next Saturday's events are sponsored by Nelson-Jameson. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, Legends, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers.
