June 9, 2001; Marshfield, WI: - Eugene Gregorich became the fourth different Super Late Model feature winner here tonight. Allen Check set fast time in the Super Lates, his first time here this year. Merle Weinfurter was the quick qualifier in the CWSSA Super Stocks. Al Smith in the Legend division set fast time, and Don Tieman Jr. in the 1-Man Cruisers.
Eugene Gregorich took the lead in the Super Late Models, Ben Pettis, and Jay VanDerGeest right behind. Dean LaPointe and Wayne Mackesy were running fourth and fifth. Lap two Brian Back passed Mackesy for fifth spot. Then, Jeff Weinfurter passed Back for fifth on lap five. Weinfurter then took fourth away from LaPointe. LaPointe reclaimed his position for lap 12. VanDerGeest and LaPointe battled for the third spot. LaPointe got it from lap 18, but was unable to hold off VanDerGeest who quickly took it back. Lap 20 Jim Sauter Jr., who started third from last broke into the top five to take fifth from Weinfurter. Two laps later Sauter passed LaPointe for fourth. Gregorich won, Pettis second, VanDerGeest third, Sauter fourth and LaPointe fifth. The CWSSA Super Stock feature saw Marv Flick lead the first four laps. Brian Ganski took the next three laps. Then Tim Plowman took the lead on lap eight. Ganski second, Flick third, Matt Raykowski fourth and Larry Schultz fifth. The only caution of the race came out on lap 11. After the field picked a lane, the race re-started. Plowman continued to lead, Raykowski moved up to second, Ganski third, Schultz fourth and Merle Weinfurter fifth. Ganski passed Raykowski, then Schultz and Weinfurter did the same. Schultz went on to pass Ganski while Tim Hintz moved into fifth. Hintz kept on, passing Ganski for fourth and then Weinfurter for third. Plowman won, Schultz second, Hintz third, Weinfurter fourth and Steve Borski fifth. Eric Lokemoen led the first lap of the Legend feature. Dave Keays led the next 12 laps. Lokemoen fell to second and then third when Tom Schnitzler passed him. Lap seven lapped traffic became a factor and Lokemoen spun out and was unable to continue. Al Smith then assumed third, Russ Weiler fourth and Dean Fisher fifth. Smith passed Schnitzler for second and then took the lead from Keays on lap 14. Smith won, Fisher second, Schnitzler third, Weiler fourth and Josh Schoenick fifth. In 1-Man Cruiser feature, Shawn Carpenter led lap one. Wayne Meyer led the next seven laps. Travis Zvolena then took the lead on lap nine, and held on for the win. Josh Elmhorst second, Rob Detwiler third, Glen Bargender fourth and Darrell Paschel fifth. The team of Mike Dodson and Luke Hall won the 2-Man Cruiser race. John Dupee Jr. and Larry Brugh finished second, and Dave Hasenohrl and Carl Stoflet third. Tonight's Wal-Mart bicycle winner was Cora Bell from Spencer. This week Tuesday, June 12th will also be the MACCI Business After 5 Night. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30. Divisions racing are Super Late Models, Legends, 1-Man Cruisers and 2-Man Cruisers. Rain Date is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13th. Next Saturday's events are sponsored by Thomas Electric.
