April 18, 1998; Marshfield, WI: -  It was perfect weather for the season opener here at the Marshfield Super Speedway.  Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids set fast time in the CWRA Late Models while Judd Brandl of Rudolph set quick time in the CWSSA Super Stock division establishing a new mark.   Shawn Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids took quick time in the Pure Stock class.

Bobby Turzinski won a hard fought battle with Joe Krzykowski to end up in victory lane during the season opening CWRA Late Model feature event.

The CWRA Late Model feature saw Bobby Turzinski grab the lead at the start.  Joe Krzykowski put up a fight for the lead and passed Bobby T for the lead on the third lap.

Bobby T challenged back and passed Krzykowski on lap four but could not hold him at bay and Kryzkowski retook the lead on lap five.  As the top two battled it out the field behind was pressuring them.  Larry Lepak and Brian Back a rookie in the late models ran third and fourth.  As the top of the field batteled back and forth, fast timer Jeff Weinfurter moved his way up the field.  Rex Rossier also one of the top timers worked his way to the front.

Meanwhile Bobby T and Krzykowski, two very experienced drivers, challenged each other for the lead running side by side.  In the end Bobby T took home the checkered, with Larry Lepak second, Weinfurter third, Krzykowski faded to fourth and Rossier claimed fifth.

Larry 'Putz' Braunsky (#4) was a double winner during the evening winning both his heat race and the dash in Super Stock action.

In the CWSSA Super Stock feature, the field became very shuffled from the beginning.  Chad Brundidge moved from his 11th place starting spot and into first by lap six, with Dave Pagels close behind him.  Meanwhile Cale Laessig and Judd Brandl were moving up.  Larry Braunsky moved into the top five and held onto a top five spot until the end.  Brundidge gained a lead on the field and Brandl didn't have enough laps to catch him after moving into second.

Chad Brundidge won the Super Stock feature race in this sharp looking truck bodied racer.  For this season the Super Stock class will be allowd to run truck bodies.  It makes for an interesting show to watch both cars and trucks racing on the same track!!

Brundidge drove off with the win, Brandl was second followed by Laessig, Braunsky and Pagels in the top five spots.

Shawn Stelzer carried his fast time throughout the night to make a clean sweep of the show.  Stelzer won his heat in addition to the feature race.   Kevin Fischer took second in the main followed by Mike Merriam, Jeremy Switlick and Brad Guralski in the top five slots.

Shawn Stelzer dominated the Pure Stock class on opening night scoring a clean sweep of the division.  Stelzers performance gave hime the point lead going into next weeks action.

Marshfield Speedway would like to thank the 4 cylinder class for visiting the track.  Charles Dixon won the feature event, Mike Dixon took second ahead of Brad Lenant and James Pankow.  The winners of the cruiser event were the team of Pete Stargardt and Jon Vayda.
