Champions Crowned on final point night at Marshfield Super Speedway!

August 29, 1998; Marshfield, WI: -  Jeff Weinfurter, Merle Weinfurter and Brian Stroik were crowned the new 1998 Marshfield Super Speedway champions as we closed the points for the season here at the big-half mile oval.   Weinfueter's made out best this season with Jeff winning the CWRA Late Model track title and his father Merle wining a well deserved Super Stock crown.  All three drivers championships were their career firsts as they had won won any prievous titles.

marsh9818a.jpg (15271 bytes) The Weinfurter racing family had a fine season at Marshfield Super Speedway in 1998.  Jeff Weinfurter (#3) brought home the CWRA Late Model title while his father Merle earned top honors in the Super Stock class.

Mark Kraus a former top runner here at Marshfield returned to the track, winning the fast dash and finishing second in the feature tonight.

Bobby Turzinski held the lead for the first four laps of the CWRA Late Model feature until Brian Back took over and never looked back.  Kraus made his way through the field and grebbed the second position on lap nine.

Rookie hotshoe Brian Back (#98) brought his Late Model home in first place during the CWRA feature event on the final point night at Marshfield Speedway, while in the right photo Mark Kraus (#9) made a return trip to his former home track and claimed the trophy dash in Late Model action.   Kraus currently runs the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series tour after finishing second in point at Marshfield in 1997.

There was no catching Back however as the impressive rookie went on to score thw win.  Kraus was second, Keith Witt came home third, with Gary Back and Rory Melbinger rounding out the top five.

Curt Blenker held the lead for the first lap of the CWSSA Super Stock feature until Matt Wisz passed him.  Wisz couldn't hold off Marshfield native John Bell who took over the lead on lap five.  Dave Pagels was close behind but couldn't find a way past Bell.  On lap 21, Sam Brundidge stole second spot from Pagels but her was unable to take the lead from Bell.  Bell went on to win the race with Brundidge second, Paegels third, newly crowned point champion Merle Weinfurter fourth and Wisz rounding out the top five finishers.

Former Pure Stock champion, Johnny Bell moved into Super Stocks this season and has found some success in the division.  Here he sits in victory lane after winning the feature event. Chad Brundidge borrowed a car normally driven by Gary Wosick and took it to the checkered flag in the Super Stock dash.   Brundidge had started the season in super stocks but joined a truck racing series this year.

Curstis Turner led the first four laps of the Pure Stock feature.   On lap five, fast timer Marv Flick took the lead.  Flick wook the checkered out front with Turner second, new champion Brian Stroik third, Curt Blenker fourth and Kevin Fisher fifth.

Winners of the Cruiser event were Rodney Feltz and Dawn Feltz making it the first time a female competitor had won a crusier event.  In the Super Stock powder puff, Kim Wosick took home the checkered flag.  In the Pure Stocks it was Chris Marquard winning the powder puff , while the Crusier powder puff went to Cari Swenson and Kathy Lenz.

Brett Przybylski of Marshfiled won the Target bike giveaway.

The next racing event will be held on September 12th.  It's the CARQUEST Auto Parts Inviatational 1998 Grand Finale.  A lucky will be able to take possession of the 1998, Dodge Dakota Pace Truck valued at $19,000.  It will be a great night on the half-mile paved oval a the track wraps up the 1998 racing season.   On hand for the event will be the CWRA Late Models, CWSSA Super Stocks, Pure Stocks and Cruisers.  Plus the Great North Legends will be on hand.  Miller Time Trials at set to begin at 5:30 p.m., with racing action getting underway at 7:00 p.m.  The rain date for this special event will be September 19th.

Marshfield Speedway is a half-mile asphalt oval, located just three miles west of Marshfield, WI on county trunk H, just west of town! See you there!
