| Rex Rossier tops CARQUEST Invitational at Marshfield! |
September 12, 1998; Marshfield, WI: - It was an exciting night of racing here at Marshfield Super Speedway for the CarQuest Invitational. With 90 cars on hand it was close competition for the top spots. Gary Back was the top qualifier in the CWRA Late Models, Gary Wosick toped the CWSSA Super Stock qualifying, Charlie Menard was fastest in the Great North Legends and Marv Flick topped Pure Stock qualifying.

Rex Rossier scored his third CWRA Late Model victory of the season at Marshfield Speedway in the annual CarQuest Invitational. To win the event Rossier had to fend off the challenges of recently crowned track champion Jeff Weinfurter to take home the checkered flag. All the tops stars of Marshfield Speedway and area race tracks will return October 3rd for the NEW Fall Shootout! |
Twenty-three cars started the CWRA Late Model feature race. It was a big battle for positions as Brian Seubert held the lead for the first five laps but was not able to hold off Rex Rossier. At the halfway point, Rossier led, Seubert was second while newly crowned track champion Jeff Weinfurter, Keith Witt and Monte Gress followed in the top five spots.

On lap 14, Weinfurter and Witt got by Seubert to take the second and third spots behind Rossier and leaving Seubert to deal with Gress. Jeremy Lepak moved into the top five on lap 22 and he then passed Gress to claim fourth, as Donnie Woller advanced into fifth dropping Gress out of the top five.
Rossier would go on to take the checkered ahead of Weinfurter, Witt was third, Lepak fourth and Woller finished in fifth.

Polesitter, Jim Marquard led the first seven laps of the CWSSA Super Stock division until Allan Sansky passed him for the top spot. Scott Hamel and Andy Simonis lined up behind Sansky but they were not able to take the top spot. Meanwhile, Gary Wosick who set fast time made his way up from the back of the pack. When the checkered flag fell however Sansky would pick up the win with Wosick second, Simonis third, Cale Laessig fourth and Hamel fifth.

In the Legend feature, Tony Robertson had the lead but then Dean Fisher took hold of the position and never let go. Robertson held second until Andy Burgess grabbed the spot on lap 17 and he was followed by Dwayne Vetrone who motored past Robertson into third. Fast Timer Charlie Menard was making his path to the top spot motoring through traffic. Before the finish Vetrone passed Burgess but at the stripe Fischer won, followed by Vetrone, Menard, Burgess and Pat Hinner.

Flick (#9 - right photo ) won all the other races including his heat and the feature in addition to setting fast time making it a good evening. Flick finished in the runner-up spot point standings. | |
Kevin Fisher held the lead for two laps in the Pure Stock feature until Brian Stroik got the top spot. Stroik then lost the lead to Marv Flick on lap six. Anney T. made her first appearance of the year here at Marshfield Speedway and ran in third most of the race. At the finish it was Flick, Stroik, Anney T., Curt Blenker and Fisher.
Kevin Dupee and Jon Dupee Jr. topped the Cruiser event.
This evening's Target Bike Winner was Steve Mueller of Little Chute, and last but not least was the winner of the 1998 Dodge Dakota Pace Truck who was Mark Schoone of Tomahawk.
There is one more race on the 1998 schedule which is the newly added event at the raceway. It's the CWRA Fall Shootout to be held on October 2nd and 3rd. With five classes of racing and open rules to attract more cars there will be lots of action at the raceway.
Racing will include Late Models, Super Stocks, Legends, Pure Stocks and Cruisers. There will be twin 50 lap features in the Late Model class. Friday night is practice from 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and there is FREE grandstand admission. On Saturday time trials will begin at 4:00 P.M. with racing action starting at 5:30 P.M. This is a must see event to wrap up out 1998 season, be there to watch it happen!
Marshfield Speedway is a half-mile asphalt oval, located just three miles west of Marshfield, WI on county trunk H, just west of town! See you there!
