Visitor Mark Schroeder tops Marshfield Speedway's FALL SHOOT-OUT!

October 3, 1998; Marshfield, WI: -  It was a chilly Saturday afternoon but a great day for racing. As the racers poured into the pit area, the skies lightened.  By qualifying everyone was ready for the show, even Mother Nature.

Marshfield Speedway - CWRA Fall Shoot-out Winner - # 7 Mark Schroeder

marsh9820a.jpg (15173 bytes) Mark Schroeder made his first ever visit to Marshfield Speedway payoff as he took home feature wins in both 50 lap events.  Schroeder turned in a dominating performance coming from the last row in the second feature race. Schroeder is joined by track representatives Heather and Tiffany Stone in victory lane.

Out of 24 Late Models that had never been here before plus the others that had raced here previously, Mark Schroeder a newcomer to the track, won both Twin 50 lap feature events.

Bruce Honkala timed in first and set a time that no other Late Model could touch in the program.  Cale Laessig set the pace in the Super Stocks and Shawn Stelzer set fast time in the Pure Stock division.

In the first Late Model last chance event, Chris Weinkauf, Keith Witt, Jason Weinkauf and Danny Heying rounded out the top four finishers and advanced into the main events.  The second Last Chance race saw newly crowned track champion Jeff Weinfurter take the win over Kevin Tunks, Rex Rossier and Jesse Haese and also move into the feature action.

marsh9820b.jpg (7078 bytes) Out front!  Mark Schroeder (#7) takes the lead from Scott Field (#6) in the first 50 lap feature race.  Schroeder proceeded to pull away from the pack to score the victory, while Field ran strong and finished a solid fourth in the first 50 lapper!

The first 50 lap feature saw Scott Field take the early lead and hold on for seven laps.  Mark Schroeder had moved up through the pack and took over the top spot from Field on lap eight.  Mark Kraus was in pursuit of the lead but just couldn't get to Schroeder.  Just as the race was nearing the end Mark Eswin passed Krause for second.  That's the way the lead trio crossed the finishing line with Schroeder hanging on for the win, Eswein second, and Kraus third. Field took fourth edging out Terry Baldry moved through the field from the last row into fifth.

New winners!  With racers coming from all over the state there were many new faces in victory lane at Marshfield Speedway.  In the left photo Chris Weinkauf (#55) took home a win in the first Last Chance qualifier to make the twin 50 lap features where he then recorded a pair of 8th place finishes.  In the center photo Dells Speedway regular Rock Breezer (#64) celebrates a heat win.  In the right photo Mike Kengas (#30) came all the way down from Norway Speedway in Michigan to take his turn in victory lane after winning a heat race.

Bobby Turzinski led the second 50 lap feature for the first 18 laps before Baldry caught and passed him for the lead.  Mark Schroeder, the winner of the first feature, had to start in back of the second race but quickly cut through the pack and into the lead before the halfway point.  Schroeder held off the pack for the win making a sweep of the feature events.  Turzinski held on for second, Eswein grabbed third ahead of Mike Reichenberger and Doug Mahlik who rounded out the top five finishers in the second race.

marsh9820h.jpg (14868 bytes) Merle Weinfurter (#24) keeps on winning!  Newly crowned Super Stock champion took the lead from Johnny Bell in the 25 lap feature race on lap 14, and then powered away from the field to add yet another feature win to his win column.

John Bell started on the pole of the Super Stock feature and never looked back until lap 14 when Merle Weinfurter the newly crowned Super Stock champion shot into the lead.  Newcomer Paul Brown was holding his own in the top five.  Cale Laessig, the fast timer of the day in the division made it from the back into fifth by lap 21.  When the checkered flag fell Weinfurter would wind up with the win.  Bell claimed second, Jason Szymkowiak who moved up from his tenth place starting spot took third, Brown finished fourth and Laessig rounded out the top five finishers.

Sharp looking car!  The Great Northern Legends were also on this evenings program and Dwayne Vetrone (#9) pulled off the win in the feature event.  He is joined in victory lane by representatives Heather and Tiffany Stone. marsh9820k.jpg (14306 bytes)

Dwayne Vetrone held the lead throughout the whole Legend feature race.  Scott Brandt and Dean Fisher battled it out for second.  Brandt and Fisher swapped the spot several time behind Vetrone but at the checkered Fisher had second.  Brandt was third, Dave Keays fourth and Aaron Sodenberg claimed fifth.

Jeff Gruber (#26x) earned his career feature win at Marshfield Speedway when he topped the Street Stock main after leading most of the race. Ouch! Mike Brooks (#22)did not end his season the way he wanted after this accident in the Street Stock feature race.

Shawn Stelzer was working in another clean sweep and was well on his way to doing so but a first lap accident that collected Stelzer took him out of the feature event. Jim Ahle and Jeff Gruber battled for the early lead.  Gruber would take the point but couldn't hold off the charge of Rodney Smith, Tim Syvrud and Brad Sholze.  Smith won the event with Syvrud second, Scholze third, Gruber fourth and Brian Stroik fifth.

Winners of the Cruiser event were John Dupee Jr. and Kevin Dupee.   Dale Koplein and Shawn Knetter teamed up to take second while the duo of Chuck Green and Chris Sternweis took third.

Marshfield Super Speedway would like to thank all the drivers, crews and fans for supporting racing and joining us at the track this past season.   Have a great winter and we will see you in the spring when we open our 1999 season.
