Melbinger earns second CWRA Late Model win of year at Marshfield!

May 9, 1998; Marshfield, WI: -  Rory Melbinger has proven his talent at Marshfield Super Speedway.  Melbinger, who used to run at the track back when it was a dirt track, seems to be the man to beat in 1998 on the asphalt in the CWRA Late Model division.

Melbinger tops CWRA Late Models again at Marshfield

marsh983a.jpg (15255 bytes) Rory Melbinger, a driver who's history at Marshfield Speedway goes back to the racetracks dirt days, has proven his talent on asphalt becoming the first driver this year to win more than a single feature on the Marshfield asphalt in CWRA Late Model action!

"The skies were clear in the west", as Shawn Stelzer set fast time in the pure stock division breaking the track record.  Greg Back topped the CWSSA Super Stocks posting quick the quick time.

Rene Scheinoha topped the CWRA Late Model semi-feature as she beat Dan Friske to the line in the event.  Both drivers advanced into the Late Model main.

Wayne Breitenfeldt captured the early lead in the CWRA Late Model feature.  As he gained a small lead on the field, a caution on lap 13 tightened the cars back up on his rear bumper. Choosing the inside lane, Melbinger was up to second for the restart. Melbinger who was looking for his second win, was passed by Brian Back on lap 15, dropping him back to third.

Dave Pagels (#409) tries to hold off Gary Wosick in CWSSA Super Stock action.  Pagels must have had a "little help" earlier as he's dragging the nose of another car!! marsh983e.jpg (7483 bytes)

Allan Sansky held the lead for the initial lap of the CWSSA Super Stock feature.  Dave Pagels grabbed the lead on lap two.  Gary Wosick not satisfied with second, passed Pagels for the lead on lap 16 and never looked back.   Wosick won the race, his first of the year at Marshfield, taking the win ahead of Pagels, Sansky, Keith Bohmsach and Judd Brandl who rounded out the top five.

The thrill of victory and..... Gary Wosick is all smiles after taking the win in the Super Stock feature in the left photo, we're sure the expression is different on Tim Plowman's face after a wild ride that knocked down some billboards during the same event.  Plowman was not injured in the accident.

Shawn Stelzer started last in the Pure Stock feature and moved into first by lap three.  Stelzer pulled away for the win , with Marv Flick second, Brian Stroik third, Curt Blenker fourth and Kevin Fisher fifth.

John Dupee and Kevin Dupee won the ever popular Cruiser race.   Next weeks events on May 16, are sponsored by WIFC/95.5 FM, and Wisconsin Fans For Auto Racing.  The Great Northern Legends will also be appearing on the program in addition to CWRA Late Models, CWSSA Super Stock, Pure Stocks and Cruisers to make for a five division show.  Miller Time Trials are at 5:30 p.m. and racing is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
