May 23, 1998; Marshfield, WI: - The Memorial Day weekend got off to an exciting start as the late model feature ended in a virtual dead heat between the top three finishers on All Car Automotive Night at Marshfield Super Speedway.

Joe Krzykowski has a reason to be all smiles after he thrilled the crowd by winning a wild three die photo finish victory in CWRA Late Model action. Krzykowski edged out point leader Jeff Weinfurter and Troy Nelson by less than two feet. |

Mike Budleski jumped out to the early lead in the twenty lap CWRA Late Model feature. He held down the top spot until lap eight, when Joe Krzykowski raced by on the outside. Troy Nelson was next to go by Budleski and he then set his sights on the #77 of Krzykowski. By lap fifteen the two were running side-by-side while fast timer, Jeff Weinfurter had worked his way through the field into third. Nelson took over the lead by a nose on lap seventeen only to give it back on lap eighteen.

Not what they planned. Jack Greenwood (#33) and Rene Scheinoha got together on the first lap of the CWRA Late Model feature and the pair went off the raceway and into the embankment. Neither driver was hurt but the crash ended their evenings. |
When the white flag flew, Krzykowski lead by half a car length over Nelson with Weinfurter a length behind. Coming out of turn four on the final lap, Nelson dove to the inside and Weinfurter went up to the high side. At the wire, you could have thrown a sheet over all three of them, with Krzykowski taking top honors followed by Weinfurter two feet back and Nelson another foot behind in third.

| First time winners! In the left photo former track Pure Stock champion Johnny Bell (#99) won his first Super Stock heat event taking the first heat in his Lincoln bodied racer. Meanwhile Jason Szymkowiak made an appearance at Marshfield Super Speedway pay off with the feature win as seen in the right photo. | |
Jason Szymkowiak came from the inside of row three to take the lead on lap three of the Super Stock feature, and stretched out his lead to almost 20 car lengths before some of the faster cars worked their way through the pack. This gap proved to be insurmountable as he went on the the win. Allan Sansky finished second with Larry Braunsky close behind in this accident-free CWSSA Super Stock feature.
The Pure Stock feature saw Todd Stelzer take top honors followed by Brian Stroik and Marvin Flick.

Daredevil racers!! Motorcycles took to the half-mile asphalt oval and thrilled the fans with their high speed slides. When the checkered dropped Rick Bretel was in victory lane. |
The two wheel daredevils made their return to the blacktop tonight. Crowd favorite Steve Kasten from Hatley made it to the front in the heat race, but Appleton's Rick Bretl forged to the front on the first lap of the feature with a wide open high line move from the back row on his 600 Gipp Racing Honda and he held off Steve Kaatens pressure for the 8 quick laps to take the victory. Curt Knitt brought home his CTK/PSI Mike Bertram Performance 250 Kawasaki home in third place, while the Eckes brothers filled in fourth and fifth spots, with the younger Cliff showing Woody the way home. The next time the cycles return here is June 27th.

Coming out on top this evening was the duo of Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser. The team of Rodney Feltz and Fran Esser won the Cruiser Class in the final event of the evening.
Next weeks events will be sponsored by Miller Beer, TV 9 and WOFM/94.7, -- All Admission tickets are a mere $2.00 Legends will also be here for the event, along with Rock & Roll to GO and dancing after the races until 12:30 p.m. Miller Time Trials are at 5:30 p.m. and racing is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
