in CWRA Late Model action at Marshfield!

marsh988a.jpg (13463 bytes) Wayne Breitenfeldt the defending CWRA Late Model champion at Marshfield Speedway, finally avoided the bad luck that had plagued him since opening day and scored his first feature win of the season.

In the Legends class Paul Menard had a clean sweep taking wins in very race the division had to offer.  In late Model action Dean LaPointe and Jack Greenwood placed first and second in the Semi-feature and used those finishes to advance to the main.  The good number of late models on hand made it necessary to run a semi-feature.

Donnie Woller led the first seven laps of the CWRA Late Model feature.  Wayne Breitenfeldt challenged Woller for the lead and took it from him on lap eight, with Woller running second, Keith Witt in third ahead of Bobby Turzinski and Rex Rossier.  On lap ten Rossier advanced to fourth at Turzinski's expense, while one lap later Witt moved past Woller to grab the runner-up spot, while current point leader Jeff Weinfurter entered the top five dropping Turzinski back a notch.

Robert Stolze made his fist trip to victory lane at Marshfield in 1998, when he took the win in the second CWRA Late Model feature.  His car is the only Ford Probe bodied racer at the track. Semi-feature winner, Dean LaPointe drove his Ford Thunderbird to first place in the CWRA Late Model semi-feature, to advance to the main event

On lap 12, Rossier moved into third past Woller, and Woller continued to fall back in the pack as Weinfurter took fourth from him on lap 13.   Troy Nelson entered the top five on lap 14, as Woller faded back in the field.   Meanwhile Breitenfeldt continued to set the pace out front.

Breitenfeldt went on to win the race, his first feature win of the 1998 season at Marshfield, with Witt second, Rossier third, Weinfurter fourth and Nelson rounding out the top five spots.

Chris Grosbier held the lead for the first five laps of the CWSSA Super Stock feature.  Cale Laessig passed Grosbier for the lead on lap six.   Laessig held on to the lead over the rest of the field for the win.  Judd Brandl moved up from his tenth place starting spot to take second.  Grosbier finished third.  Merle Weinfurter moved up from twelfth to take fourth and Larry Bruansky who started a distant eleventh came home in fifth place.

marsh988e.jpg (11849 bytes) For the first time in his career, Cale Laessig scored a feature in in the Super Stock division.  Laessig has been turning in strong performances this season and was at one point leading the standings in the class.

Paul Menard completed a clean sweep when he won the Legend Feature.  Ben Pettis took second, Pat Hinner claimed third, Dean Discher was fourth and Tom Schnitzler finished in fifth.

In the Pure Stock feature, Curt Blenker led the first two laps until Hank Frasch grabbed the lead for the next two laps.  Marv Flick took over the top spot by lap five and led the event the rest of the distance, however he had to hold off a last lap challenge by Shawn Stelzer to do so.  Flick won by a bumper over Stelzer, with Brian Stroik third, Blenker in fourth and Frasch in fifth.
