2002 Pure Street ( Bomber ) Rules

PURE STREET (BOMBERS) GENERAL DESCRIPTION

3000 lbs. with 52% left side weight. Entry level division, factory steel body, stock frame, 108 inch minimum wheel base with full frame car or 112 inch wheel base with any unibody or full frame car, 2-barrel carburetor, . Track tire rule to be announced.

ELIGIBLE MODELS

A) BODY / FRAME / INTERIOR / WINDOWS
a.Any American made car, front engine, and rear wheel drive, manufactured through 1990 may be used.
b.Frame must be OEM and unaltered for make and model of car being used.
c.Must have complete factory produced OEM steel body. No fiberglass or plastic after market body parts permitted. No sun roof, T-top, or convertible top permitted.
d.No spoilers permitted. No fabricated body parts designed to enhance aerodynamics or that alters stock appearance permitted. Headlight and taillight covers permitted.
e.Rust and other damage to body components may be replaced with same gauge steel; no aluminum permitted.
f.All OEM inner metal panels, braces, reinforcements, etc. must remain intact, unless specifically permitted in these rules.
g.Doors must be welded or bolted shut. Trunk lid and hood must be pinned down.
h.Must have all side glass, trim and upholstery removed, including soft dash components.
i.Must have stock factory automobile bumpers, front and rear, and must be securely mounted in stock location for make and model of car. No bracing behind or on bumpers permitted. Trimming off bumper ends not permitted.
j.No sharp body or bumper edges permitted.
k.Hood must remain rear hinged. No hood scoops permitted.
l.Front inner fenders may be removed.
m.Front and rear firewall must remain stock and unaltered. All holes must be sealed with 20 gauge minimum steel patches. Must have a full steel firewall between fuel tank and driver.
n.Stock floor pan must remain from frame rail to frame rail. No cockpit-type interiors permitted.
o.Rusted floor pan and trunk must be replaced with same gauge steel only. No aluminum permitted.
p.Roof and dash may only be debraced for roll cage clearance.
q.Window and door operation hardware may be removed.
r.Inner front door panels may be removed to allow for curved door bars.
s.Must be equipped with a full stock glass or lexan windshield that is sufficiently braced. Side, quarter, and back windows must remain open; no glass or lexan permitted.
t.Ground clearance is 4 inches minimum for side frame rails and body components with driver in car.

WEIGHT

1.Minimum total weight is 3000 pounds after race with driver.
2.Maximum left side weight is 52% of total weight.
3.All ballast must be in block form of five pounds minimum, painted white, have car number on it, and be securely fastened. A FINE OF $5.00 PER POUND WILL BE ASSESSED FOR ANY LEAD FOUND ON THE TRACK.
4.Weight penalties may be added to any car not meeting rule requirements.

ENGINE

A)ENGINE LOCATION
a.Must be mounted in stock location with steel stock-type motor mounts. Torque limiting straps or chains permitted.

B)ENGINE SIZE AND CONFIGURATION / ENGINE BLOCK
a.Corporate engine interchange allowed. May use any GM engine in GM car, any Ford engine in Ford Corporation car, any Chrysler engine in Chrysler Corporation car.
b.Only cast iron engine block permitted.
c.Engine must remain stock; this includes, but is not limited to, unaltered OEM cast iron cylinder heads and unaltered OEM crankshaft. Heads and crankshaft must match engine block being used (example: 350 cylinder heads and crankshaft with 350 engine block).
d.Stroke must be OEM dimension for engine block being used.
e.No port matching or flow work of any kind permitted.
f.Maximum compression ratio is 11.0 to 1. NO TOLERANCE.
g.No portion of piston above engine block surface permitted.

C) CAMSHAFT / VALVE LIFTERS / ROCKER ARMS
a.Valve lift measured at valve retainer with lash as raced is .500" maximum.
b.Lifters must be OEM diameter for block being used.
c.Only OEM type rocker arms permitted.

D) INTAKE MANIFOLD
d.Must be unaltered stock cast iron 2-barrel.
e.No porting or polishing permitted.

E) CARBURETOR
a.Only 1, 2-barrel carburetor, which is OEM for make of engine being used, is permitted. Must remain unaltered except for removal of choke butterfly. 1.375" diameter venturi maximum, 1.6875" diameter throttle plate maximum.
b.Holley carburetor not permitted.
c.Fuel injection, superchargers, or nitrous oxide not permitted.

F)CARBURETOR AIR CLEANER / AIR INTAKE
a.A stock round air cleaner element will be required. It must have metal top and bottom.
b.Air cleaner top must be under hood.
c.All air must be filtered through air cleaner.
d.No hoses, funneling devices, or devices designed to get more air into
engine will be permitted.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

1.Only stock single point or electronic distributor permitted.
2.Crank triggered, multiple coil ignitions, or multiple spark discharge systems not permitted.
3.Onboard electronics such as but not limited to lap timing devices, suspension monitors, computers, torque limiter ignitions, and other electronic devices not permitted..
4.Only 1 battery is permitted.
5.Battery must not be mounted in trunk.

ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM

A) FAN / FAN SHROUD
a.Fan must be belt driven. Electric fan may be used along with belt driven fan.
b.Fan shroud must cover a minimum of top 180 degrees of fan and must extend at least to centerline of fan blades.

EXHAUST

1.Must have stock cast iron exhaust manifolds and must be OEM for make and model of car. No port matching or flow work of any kind permitted.
2.No headers permitted whether OEM or not.
3.Exhaust must pass through no more than 2 exhaust pipes, 2 inches maximum outside diameter that exits behind driver.
4.Crossover pipe not permitted.
5.Expansion chamber not permitted.
6.Must be sealed tight, securely mounted.
7.Noise level is 98db maximum measured at 100 feet from car.


DRIVE TRAIN

A) CLUTCH / FLYWHEEL / BELLHOUSING
a.Must have OEM type flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate when using manual transmission.
b.Clutch disc must be OEM for flywheel.
c.High speed multiple disc clutch, aluminum flywheel, or aluminum pressure plate not permitted.
d.Must have easily accessible 1-1/2 inch diameter inspection hole in bellhousing.
e.Must be capable of being put into and taken out of gear with engine running.

B)TRANSMISSION / DRIVE SHAFT / REAR END
a.Transmission must be unaltered stock.
b.Automatic transmission must use an OEM stock and functional torque converter.
c.Only steel drive shaft permitted.
d.Rear end must be unaltered OEM production manufactured that was available for make and model of car being used in competition.
e.Rear end must not be locked. No locking devices of any kind permitted. No welded spider gears, posi-track, limited slip, etc. permitted.

C)WHEELS
a.Only stock wheels no wider than 7 inches permitted. Heavy-duty stock wheels are recommended.
b.Racing or spoke wheels not permitted.
c.Bead locks not permitted.
d.5/8 inch wheel studs recommended.
e.Wheel weights not permitted.

D)TIRES
a.Must have no more than 2-1/2 inches camber on both left and right sides.
b.Track tire rule to be announced
c.No system of heating, soaking, siping, grinding, buffing or changing the composition or character of the tire is allowed. Note: Anyone caught using or CARRYING tire softener in their hauler will be fined $100.00.

E) BRAKES
a.Must remain OEM stock for make and model of car being used.
b.Brake booster/master cylinder must have a strap or brace to help secure to firewall.
c.Rotors must not be drilled or lightened.
d.Rotors and calipers must be cast iron or steel.
e.Brake pedal must remain in stock location and use stock mounts.
f.No brake bias adjuster permitted.
g.No inline shut off or pressure adjusting valves permitted.
h.Must have operating brakes on all 4 wheels.

WHEELBASE

Must be OEM wheel base dimension for body style. 108 inch minimum wheel base with full frame car or 112 inch wheel base with any unibody or full frame car.

SUSPENSION / STEERING COMPONENTS

1.All suspension parts and steering components must be unaltered OEM and in stock location for make and model of car.
2.Sway bar must be stock type with a maximum diameter of 1.187 inches and mount in stock location.
3.Sway bar must attach to both lower A-frames with stock type mounts with a maximum height difference in mounting points of 1 inch.
4.Sway bar must not be cut, welded, heated, or otherwise altered in any way.
5.Shocks must be OEM and mount in stock location without the use of shims, spacers, or extensions.
6.Shocks must be steel, sealed units, non-adjustable, that cannot be taken apart.
7.No reinforcing of suspension parts permitted.
8.No weight jacks permitted.
9.No adjustable suspension components or weight shifting devices permitted.
10.SPRINGS
a.OEM or stock type replacement springs permitted.
b.Must be mounted in stock location and fit factory spring mounts top and bottom.
c.Both left and right front springs must be the same (same number of coils, same wire diameter, and same freestanding length).
d.Both left and right rear springs must be the same (same number of coils, same wire diameter, and same freestanding length).
e.No spacers, shims, or inserts permitted.
f.No heating, cutting, grinding or any alteration of leaf or coil springs permitted.
g.All leaf springs must be steel. No fiberglass springs permitted.

FUEL / FUEL SYSTEM

1.Track racing fuel is permitted. If fuel other than track fuel is used, it can match, but must not exceed testing results of track fuel.
2.No fuel additives permitted.
3.Only OEM type mechanical fuel pumps mounted in stock location permitted. No electric fuel pumps permitted.
4.Fuel lines must be of armored hose, or installed in metal conduit, or steel fuel line and must not be routed through driver compartment.

FUEL CELL / GAS TANK

1.Fuel cell recommended.
2.Fuel cell, if used must have a plastic or rubber bladder, and must be encased in a container of 20 gauge steel or 1/8 inch aluminum.
3.Must be located securely in trunk area, centered left to right and as far forward as possible.
4.Fuel container must not extend below trunk floor.
5.If fuel cell is not used, heavy-duty gas tank of no more than 1/4 inch thick steel may be used.
6.Must have check valve on vent tube or cap.
7.Fuel container must not be more than 12 gallon capacity.


ROLL CAGE

1.Must be constructed of no less than 1.66 inch diameter by 13 gauge (.095 inch) carbon steel round mechanical tubing.
2.Must be welded to frame of car in no less than 6 places. Cannot be welded to body.
3.Unibody car must have roll cage welded to a plate; must have a plate bolted on top and bottom of floor pan, 4 inches square by 1/4 inch thick minimum, and bolted together with 4, 1/2 inch bolts.
4.Must have a 3/16 inch inspection hole in 1 main upright.
5.Bends must not have any kinks.
6.Must be kept inside of car.
7.No bars ahead of front firewall permitted.
8.All joints must be completely electric welded all around and be slag free.
9.Minimum requirements for all roll cages are as follows:
a.4 upright bars and 3 overhead bars.
b.3 curved horizontal bars in driver door and 3 in passenger door connected by vertical tubing.
c.1 horizontal bar in dash area connecting front uprights.
d.Roof support bar (see diagram #2).
e.Rear hoop brace (see diagram #3).
f.Tubing to protect driver's feet (see diagram #4).
g.Vent window brace on driver side (see diagram #4).
h.2 rear support bars that must not extend past rear axle centerline
(see diagram #4).

MISCELLANEOUS

1.Radio communication not permitted.
2.Use of scanners with track frequency is optional but recommended
