Mother Nature Delays Opening Night At Midway Speedway!
By Tim Berrier

April 13, 2002; Lebanon, MO. - Over 70 cars had registered for the anticipated night opening at Midway Speedway, just east of Lebanon. But, mother nature had other plans. As six different divisions took to the 3/8ths mile high banked asphalt track for hot laps sessions, it appeared to be a great night for racing.

David Bates, 2000 modified champion spoke of the readiness for the night. "There could be any one of several drivers take the checkered flag, finishing in the top five ill be nothing to hang your head over." There were 15 cars ready to take the track.

A few drivers were probably happy to see the rain. Jerry Kelley in his Late Model lost the front right tire and it seemed to take everything with it. Kelly had to trailer his car for the night. Also in hot laps, Chris Nicols in his Late Model Stock broke the front spindle, letting go the tire and that left him out for the night. Robert Reeves, who moved up to the Late Model Stock division, has been waiting for his motor to be completed and the extra week will keep him in the points with no racing taking place due to the rain.

The crowd and tier parking was full and that will be the way that Midway Speedway likes to see it. Track owner, Harold Armstrong commented that it was a shame for this to happen as the fans looked ready for some of the finest Ozark racing.

The gates will open again Saturday  night at 5:00 with hot laps beginning at 5:30. For more information concerning the speedway contact the office at 417-532-2060 or visit them on the web at www.racingonline.com/midway.
